Hello -

I'm trying to track down the 71 Malibu Convertible that I owned in High School and College. The VIN is 136671B207167. I sold it in Bethlehem, PA in 1988. I'd like to buy it if it has survived and the owner is willing. I appreciate any leads.

Thanks.

Hello Scott. Welcome to the site. I will tell you as I tell all seeking this path. IF the car is still around you must pick up the path where you left off. I recommend you go to car shows in the area where it was last known armed with pictures of your car from back in the day. Approach other Chevelle owners (showing them the pictures) and ask if they know of the car. Problem is you are at the end of the show cycle rather than at the beginning. Shows in PA will shut down in a few weeks. Plus a lot of water has passed under the bridge since 1988. Car could have been wrecked or junked. Or may be owned by someone that could care less that you want it back. The easiest thing to do would be to get another one and make it as you remember your old car.
We see these requests quite often here. Rarely do we hear of the old owner finding their car. Just being real !!!

I did a vin search online as I’m sure you have done and nothing came up so no one has sold it at auction or an online site within last 10-15 years. I would call DMV and see if they will help, I found my dads 70 Monte Carlo this way that we sold in Kansas in 1997.

Thanks Chris.

I contacted PA DMV back in 2012. They were kind enough to give me the registration info from the guy I sold it to. I got hold of his ex-wife and she remembered the car and thought it was sold either to Yost Valley Motor Co. in Berkeley Springs, WV or it may have gone to Canada around 2000. Yost Valley Motor Co. has since gone out of business. That's as far as I've tracked it.
