Guys, I need your help… Does someone know what's the casting number for a GM original intake manifold (likely cast iron) for a 1970 Chevelle SS 396, 350 hp with automatic transmission and possibly, where to find one? I'm asking this for a friend who would like to put the correct one back on his car which already had an Edelbrock Torker on it when he bought it...
Thanks,

Claude. ;)

P.S: What about the correct carburetor?…which one should he have?…Rochester or Holley?…number?…

Wow!…13 minutes!…that was F-A-S-T ! :D … The intake manifold number seems ok but there's a little confusion about the carb #… but according to the link Bruce posted, it appears that the correct # is 7040204, not 7040200
Thanks Dave and Bruce, I'll forward this info to my friend.

Claude.

Also: Something you do not see a lot on the 70 4 speed cars. My 05 has a little item that looks like a sewing thimble. ( it also adjust the idle and SLOWS DOWN the return of the throttle arm when your foot is OFF the pedal.) It is located where you would normally find the idle screw. I believe its job is to NOT let the idle drop to quick on the 4 speed built units.

Thanks guys for the replies…However, I found an intake with the casting # 3883948 … does someone know what it's for? (Could it be for a '66-'67 396?)

Yes. If that's the Holley version then it was also used on 427/390 and 427/385 cars

I have another intake manifold-related question: My friend's car was built in March '70 and he'd like to find an intake manifold (#3955287) but as much as possible, with a correct date. I suppose that an intake from January or February could also be considered "correct" since the blocks and manifolds were built separately?
Thanks,

Claude. :)

P.S: I just found this which helps a lot: Intake Manifold Casting By Year
