I found one co called tanks. There tank will be av in Nov. Its a steel tank at a reasonable price of $220. Problem is I don't want to wait that long because I need it yesterday so I can send my car to get painted. Installing a tank in nov-dec in a non heated garage will kinda suck also. So any tanks in that price range out there? And I saw the one opg has. Has no specs for the pump or the tank so I'm not so interested in that one

This is an interesting option from Edelbrock:

why does the car need a gas tank to go to paint jail? i think i'd rather send it in non running condition..

also, installing a tank in a garage in winter isn't so bad... probably not as bad as changing a transmission in a Monte Carlo on the north side of a house in the middle of January when the ambient temps are -20 and the winds are at about 30mph out of the north... or doing a clutch in a Mustang in spring time using a melting snowbank as a ramp to hold the back of the car off the ground..

The edelbrock one seems sorta interesting. Cant see how it's gonna suck off the bottom and don't see any fuel level sensor either. The thread on the 68 is probably a no go seeing 68 is when the design changed. Didn't read the whole thread just looking for a drop in and go. Thinking tanks inc cant be the only game in town for that design but who knows they could be.

Is the Tanks Inc version for a '64 not available yet? If not, that's bad luck for you. It's a good unit.

I have one of their EFI tanks in my '70 that I purchased back in April or May and I'm very happy with it. There is a little bit of setup involved, but nothing major. Look in the EFI section under Performance, I have a thread in there.

As for not needing a tank for paint jail, I called a couple places about repairing my floorboards when the engine/trans were out last winter, and the places I called didn't seem interested in working on a non-running car.

I have the Edelbrock E-Street fuel injection with the sump option.

You take the fuel hose off of the carb and connect it to the sump. So you are filling the sump. It has a float valve in it just like the float bowl of you carb.
The sump has a fuel injection pump submersed in the fuel and outputs 60psi of fuel to supply the fuel rail that connects to the fuel injectors.

I like it because I can swap it out into any car I want. The tank stays the way it is.

Alright I get how the edelebrock pump works now. Good idea for a quick install but I'm cleaning things up and an in tank pump is something I've wanted for quite some time. As far as paint jail its my brothers garage so its more convenient for him if it runs also he's doing it for free not counting materials. Also to add the car has been in my garage for the last 10 years and developed some fuel leaks so I'm going through the entire system so it don't catch fire and burn his house down.

Aeromotive just started making a module type setup that you use on a stock type tank. Its a fairly new product but I have heard and read that it works pretty slick actually.

There's been alot of discussions about the Spectre tanks. Many comments about updated baffle designs to resolve the low level starvation issues. The RockAuto price does include the pump and sender.

The question becomes when ordering, are you getting the updated design or old stock of the problem tanks. I know my email to Spectre never went answered so that discouraged me from ordering their product.

I have read, but not experienced firsthand, that even the updated design did not prevent the starvation issues. I think I found a few threads on LS1Tech that specifically mention this issue. There are a few photos to show where someone did a cut-a-way and it is indeed changed but not enough to prevent starvation (under certain circumstances.) I believe the problem was serious enough that one of the vendors that was supporting the tank decided to stop carrying it.

Just something to think about and do some home work on. I just recently went down this same road and ultimately decided on something much more expensive to ensure I did not have these same issues.

Is this a daily driver problem or an officer involved high speed chase with a 1/4 of a tank of gas problem?

I have an external fuel pump with a jury-rigged return line system and have never noticed a problem on my Holley EFI'd Chevelle.

Also, I'm asking because I have a Spectra tank waiting to get installed.
