Ok, I know some of you have some project cars sitting in the wings, waiting for their well deserved restoration.
What I want to know is who has one thats been sitting for the longest time.

I have a 1970 Camaro RS that I started a ground up resto on back in 1988. It's been stored indoors since then. The numbers matching engine is machined and all engine parts are bought with the exception of the cam selection. The frame was taken off, blasted, primed and painted, then reassembled and put back on the car with new body bushings. There's some minor rust under the windshield in the corners. Other than that, no rust. I had the windshield taken off, and that's as far as I got.
I've got NOS fenders, NOS upper and lower valance, grilles, an NOS 1 piece rear spoiler and a glass cowl induction hood tucked away for this car. All of the front end brackets have been bead blasted, primed and painted. Core support is done. Inner fenders need to be blasted.

With all my other cars and a busy life, I don't seem to find the time or the motivation for this one.

Sitting here thinking about how long it's been apart (17+ yrs) and I'm thinking I should git er done.

Anyone else have this kind of patience ?

a guy i know bought a 67 Vette "project" from a guy a few months ago.
factory 427 4 speed car (425hp. i think he said? whatever the top dog engine was in 67). it has the 4.10 posi rear, too.
all the parts are there- well, the engine isn't original, but it is a warranty engine with casting #'s that line right up with the car almost perfect.
it has been apart in a guy's garage since 1971- yup, the guy took apart a 4 year old 427 Vette to modify it, and never got it back together.
here's the kicker- Jimmy bought it for $15k.
now, i have said in the past that almost no old car is worth over $10k- but this car is one of the exceptions. and it should be prowling the streets of central MN ****ing off all the Corvette purists (he's gonna put 70's Vette rally wheels on it, with Hooker sidepipe headers) by June or so. just needs paint and re-assembly, and it's good to go. i think the odometer says like 20,000 miles or something silly like that..

here i thought one of my old buddies with the 10 year 69 camaro resto was bad.but this guy sunk a fortune in this car than just got burned out working on it. i kinda blame it on the weed factor he has working againest him.he hasn't touched it in 2 yrs.but still talks about finishing it or maybe tubbing it out and racing it.
N yep GIT R DONE, speaking of that the wife and i went to Bellterra Casino last night and seen Larry the cable guy LMAO it was a 2 hr show we had a great time.

I tore my El Camino apart to do bodywork 11 years ago this week. I kinda shot myself in the foot, as I tossed a lot of parts, anything that I didn't want to put back on the car. This would supposedly ensure that the stuff got replaced. The drivetrain's complete, minus a driveshaft. Body's been stripped, epoxy primed, from the doors forward, and roof too. It's those dang quarters that I'm frustrated with. PO had put '66 wheelwells in the rear for bigger tires. No complaints from me, I can fit a 29x12.5 M/T Sportsman in there now. ;) But there was so much shoddy work done to pull it off, I've been frustrated numerous times with it. To the point I'm really considering a new set of repro quarters, and willing to pay the freight on them. But I've been paying attention lately to the trade tricks on getting the body straight, and I'm encouraged by the success of the quarter patches on the Firebird, so I'm going to take one last shot at them this spring. I'm not concerned with originality, it's nowhere near that now. Traction is key. ;)

I got my Chevelle in '95, probably another 5-6 years or so I'll be done, but wouldn't be surprised to see another decade out of the project. It's running and driving at least. Hopefully I can finish it before the stuff that was done first needs replacement.

I worked on a 64 SS conv resto for 16 years before turning it over to the next owner. I did get the frame blasted and painted and the brakes and suspension done to have a rolling chassis.

My high school car is just getting the final bodywork done now, garage is full of parts for a relatively quick re-assemble. Finished H.S. in 83 and I've been on and off it all this time! Ralph

Wow, Ralph, you've got me beat by a good 6 years on that one.
I'm curious. What kind of car is this ? You must really like it to keep on pressing forward for all these years.

I too have my high school car...

In 1985 (October 1985), the engine finally went on my 66 SS hardtop, and I have been doing little things here and there for the past 20 years. So the car has not been driveable since then (20+ years)... Gathering alot of parts since then, and done some work but can't seem to make any real progress... Too many other projects have come along in between... Now my convertible is in need of some attention (minor oil leak, brakes, etc), which pushes that "project" further down the list...

Hoping to get the motor finished and get it driveable by this coming Summer...

Odds are you won't.

I've been saying the same thing for 16 winters !

I still have my first Chevelle. A 1969 2 dr Malibu L48 car. Mostly original and I haven't begun any kind of restoration on it since I bought it in Nov of 85. The original drivetrain has 193K, still runs, but needs a rebuild. It's been off the road since 1992.

Its a 67 canadian sport coupe but with all the Canadian ss stuff on it from the factory, i'm being told it is one of the last built like this (mid Dec. 66 build) before they went to the American style SS. Its still around because i really think its cool and can't wait to drive it again, besides how many guys still have their HS hotrod? should be good to go next year as other than a really slow bodyman I have everything i need to put her together including about 630 HP of BB power and a four speed to row with!
