My last mechanical project was to swap out my old water pump and t-stat with new ones. After installing everything and running the car for 30 minutes I noticed a small amount of weepage coming from the back plate on the water pump. I assume I can just tighten the nuts around the plate but I want to know can they be easily overtorqued? I am only using a 3/8" box wrench to tighten them and I don't want to strip any threads on a brand new pump. BTW, it is an ASC replacement long water pump. Thanks.

Tighten them until the leak stops or the bolt breaks. If the leak won't stop or the bolt breaks you are going to have to remove the pump anyway. With the pump off the car it's no big deal to remove the broken bolt and replace it.

That's probably a bit "shade tree" but when I have an issue like that I don't get too stirred up about broken bolts. I've fixed a few in my life. Not many but a few.

Thanks Bill. I like the way you think.
