I got this guy yesterday to replace my long-time buddy that got lost, my Case Sodbuster. I stepped up a notch now though and bought a Benchmade model 710. It's a very nice piece! Incredibly light and well balanced. Hopefully it will be with me for years to come, as the old Sodbuster was.

I absolutely can't stand to be without my knife.
2 1/2" blade, small and thin, ditched the clip right away.
It's amazing how much I use it everyday. Most used tool I have.
The blade is very dull, it's more for scraping, tuckin tape and occasional screws. Also works good as a stabber for finding thin metal in rusty areas.

I like the Kershaw Ken Onion models. Had one of the first ones, with the composite housing, but after a couple years, the clip ripped out. Supposedly, if I send it back, they'll fix it for free, but I replaced it with one of the newer models, the Leek. Love it. The one thing I did was flip the clip over. The frame is drilled/tapped so you can. Now, it's out of my pocket and open in about 1/3 second if I need. ;) Both knives have taken a lot of abuse over the past 4 years, as I work in a marine environment. Lots of cutting going on, keep my hone in my toolbox. FWIW, I have a well abused Gerber multi-tool on my belt that takes most of the abuse, but I hardly ever use the knife on it.

Those Benchmades are nice knives. I'd carry one of them for work if I didn't mind taking a bigger hit in the wallet if I ever lost it. A couple guys I work with do carry Benchmades.

When I was 14, my Dad bought me a Schrade Bear Paw (Standard Buck-Style Lockback, with leather belt pouch/sheath). Back in 1991, I was working on the Chevelle (daily driver at the time), and used it for something ... never found it back. I replaced it with a Buck Grooved Ranger (same style, but smaller), and a Buck Special (fixed blade). Last year I was cleaning out the 'Velle's interior ... I shoved my hand between the cushion and seat back of the driver's side bucket seat, to clean any crud out, and OUCH ... guess what I found, still open too!!!! Oh happy day (and painfull) that was!!!

My right front pocket is never without my Leatherman micra (airports notwithstanding!) And I'm in business dress all day. It was even in my wedding tux.

In my turnout jacket (firefghter), I carry a Gerber Pro Scout, which is an excellent multi tool.

couple weeks back, neighbor had a garage sale. had one of the oldest buck knives i've seen in a while. i gave him $1 for it, and took it home for a cleaning. i think it comes in just under 12lbs. dang! i forgot just how much those old bucks weighed, compared to the high tech stuff out now a days. anybody remember thier first knife? my buddies from the neighborhood used to save our bottle money, so we could go over to "WESTERN AUTO" and get a $1.89 barlow, that's before they went to plastic cases. i loved those old stores, where you could get almost everything. the joke use to be, " we went to western auto, and bought a bicycle and a rifle, or a qt. of tranny fluid and some socks. when we go on vacation, i always look for these type of stores, can spend hours in them. in new mexico, i went into a store where i could buy a gallon of milk, and a wood burning stove......

Benchmade knives are great!! I have one of the auto opening models and love it! They are expensive but you get what you pay for.
Supposedly you are required to show an active law enforcement or military ID to buy one of the automatic knives, is that true?

I too am a guy who has to always carry a pocket knife... except when flying. I have quite a few with a couple of favorites; one is a 3.5 inch "Oldtimer" and the other a turquoise handled 1.75 inch gentleman's knife that I carry at work. Both were gift's from my wife so that is part of the value to me.

I have been carrying a stainless spyderco knive on my uniform for 15 yrs. It broke once and I sent it to spyderco for repair and they sent me a new one. I called them and told them that I wanted my old knive back since I had it so long and they sent it back with a new blade and it was just as good as new. I have been worrying about losing it lately and thought about getting another to carry but I think I am going to try and make my 30yr career with the same knive on my belt.. so heres to 15 more yrs:thumbsup:

I guess my trusty old Swiss Army knife isn't in the same class as these knives, but at least I am ready when the holidays arrive and the wine needs opening :D

(Note to Swiss Army knife users: The tweezers come loose in the washing machine and can get badly tangled in sweaters)
