Dear Team Chevelle wagon enthusiasts,

I'm in search of a part for a sister wagon of the 65 Chevelle. My family heirloom Buick Special wagon shares the same tailgate configuration and alas after 46 years and over 270,000 miles the tailgate window lower sash channel has cracked and rusted. (Photo of channel attached below: )

Since the Chevelle wagon was much more common and popular, I was wondering if this community had some good leads on locating this part. Has the part been reproduced by anybody? (no luck with Google.) Failing that, are there some used-parts purveyors would are more likely to have a usable part for this vintage wagon?

Any and all help on getting my poor wagon back on the road would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Edouard in Orinda, CA

The replacement is supposed to be in the process of being produced. I have not heard how long it will take. I sent the rear glass 3 years ago and they became available about 9 months ago. Unless the other side looks worse that the pic you can fix that one. The guides on the end are still there. Weld it up and if chrome is important to you send it out for rechrome. I had to fix mine, looks a little worse than yours, painted it, you only see about 1/4 inch of the outside top. When the reproduction comes out I may replace it.

Thanks for the tips! (Re: 65 tailgate window channel?)

Dear Thomas,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my question.

The replacement is supposed to be in the process of being produced.
I'm glad to hear a reproduction part is in the works. Is it being produced by Einstyn.com or somebody else?

Unless the other side looks worse that the pic you can fix that one.
Fortunately one of the "Buick brotherhood" had a spare that was in better shape than mine. If I could have stuck with the original glass, I probably would have been okay - but it was badly scratched. Since I managed to get hold of a newly-produced replacement glass - I was anxious to use it. The fear was attempting to remove the old glass from the channel would damage it beyond repair.

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers, :beers:
