Bob,
I would go with the LCD since, LCD's live up to 20,000 hours and Plasma's only live about half that. Also, you won't get the burn-in on the screen like Plasma's will. LCD's are so much better than Plasma's IMO.

I have a 50" LG plasma. They no longer have problems with burn in and last a lot more then 10,000 hours. Most companies say they will last 30 years with 6 hours a day viewing until the picture is at half brightness. Plus the viewing angle us much better with plasma. LCD or plasma....you can't go wrong either way. Plasma tv's weigh much more, so take that into account if you plan to mount it on a wall.

This link has a lot of good info on both types.

Bob, even if you have to pay a little more, go to Costco to buy it! They have an awesome return policy. My neighbor had a plasma that developed 'streaks' in the picture after about 18 months. He took it back and got his money back, and upgraded to a larger LCD screen.

If you have kids or yourself that play console games like PS3 on the tv, then get a LCD. While burn in is not much of an issue like it once was with Plasma, it still remains a problem for still images that remain on the screen for a long time, which is very common in games.

If its purely to watch TV/movies, id say get the plasma. Its cheaper, very sharp, but the colors are the best. You get such a vivid picture with plasma.

What kind of still images are there in video games? Ok, I used to get burn in on the old CRT's playing Space Invaders on my 2600 buy that was in the early 80's!!!

I have both the PS and Xbox and play A LOT of Video games with my kids on my plasma....

Hello..

Just remember that Pasmas use glass and are VERY reflective when placed across from a bright light source (window, bright kitchen lights etc) LCD's are not. Also be careful of the way they measure the new TV's. I have a 32" Sony tube TV and I am looking for an LCD. My tube TV is actually taller than many 42" Wide Screen TV's. I would be paying $1500+ to gain approximately 10" of Viewing which I don't think makes sense. I will be purchasing at least a 50"+ LCD when the prices come down a little more.
Oh.. And make sure you purchase a TV and not a monitor which does NOT have a tuner built in. A friend of mine bought a Westinghouse 42" LCD Monitor which was fine with him because he has a satellite box. But some people use a direct cable connection which needs a tuner of some sort.

like track maps in the corners of racing games. The overlays that dont move. Then of course the menu's are always still boxes and stuff. Most times it wont be an issue, but its not uncommon people like to pause games or spending several hours playing a game.

I am a Zenith-lg dealer. I sell and service both. The pict quality is almost the same. awesome. the plasma is a little better and is better when viewed from the sides. the plasma uses more energy and does have more to go wrong. the refresh rate is slower on lcds ,so some fringing on the edges can be seen on fast moving pictures.Lcd is a more mature technology. If money were no object I would by the plasma. Lg's come with a 2 year factory warranty. Gary

One thing to consider with plasma is the amount of heat they put off. I was just looking at a couple this weekend and was amazed at how hot they get. I almost felt like a small space heater was running.
