I have ran the wire off the alt two different ways.One way was to the switch and the other was to the battery but one of the two drains the battery after it sits awhile.Which of rhe two is the correct way?THANKS,BILL

I think killing the ignition would be better as well. Won't the car actually run for a while without the alternator? I'm not sure how long the car would run for. I guess it depends on how good your battery is. An old car would actually run longer because there's not all the electronic bells and whistle like on today's car.

the alt wire should go to the bat side of the switch, so when the switch is turned off, it will kill the engine-something is draining your bat if it goes dead with the switch off, or you have to small a wire from front to back, should be #4 wire, esp if you have elect fans, fuel pump, etc or resist. will make the alt run hot, reducing voltage, life of alt-if its wired right, and bat still dies, you have a draw somewhere, you will have to find it
