Re: Keilers new 6 speed

Looks awesome, but he was still letting off between shifts. I wonder if it's too much stress to just power shift all the way through?

What's the price tag on something like this? If they make it for Chevy's atleast :D

Re: Keilers new 6 speed

keisler makes a bunch of trans for chevy's....I think amongst other things they require some major tunnel mods to get them in. I heard Mccleod was making a new 5 speed for "A" body's that requires no tunnel mods and is supposed to be pretty good. Sow some write ups on it from SEMA

Re: Keilers new 6 speed

Ray they make the 5 speed called the sure fit that I understand needs no tunnel modifications for the A body

I got a monthly newsletter from them but I don't know how to post it. Its probably availabe on their web site. Here is part of it.

Dear Enthusiast,

A couple of weeks ago at the Performance Race Industry (PRI) in Orlando Florida, we unveiled an exciting new product for the motorsports industry - the Keisler Road & Track 6-Speed with Clutchless Up/Down Shifts, High Torque Capacity of 1000 LB-FT+, and rapid low effort shifts over 8500rpm - as fast as you can move your shifter!! Not to be confused with other aftermarket offerings where the factory gears are modified after-the-fact with a dog ring or faceplate rin, this product offer TRUE CLUTCHLESS SHIFTING with ALL NEW GEARS, SHAFTS, SHIFT FORKS made for us under EXCLUSIVE contract by a world leader in this technology - Pfitzner of Australia. This Keisler-Pfitzner product is a DIRECT REPLACEMENT for any 1992-current Borg Warner & Tremec T56 found in Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, Trans Am, Challenger and virtually any V8 equipped muscle car, race car or truck. And the beauty is that this unit is completely street friendly, and you can it to work daily (like I do).

Re: Keilers new 6 speed

Just looks to me like Keisler trying to keep up with the other racing transmission manufacturers. The T-56 isn't cheap to begin with, and I would think 6th gear wouldn't be of much use for a $4k-$5k race prepped transmission in an A-body....you'd have to have really low gears to use the .50 6th, and then your 1st gear would be almost useless(barring using really really tall tires). But, it does have O/D at least and you could use 5th.

Ray is right, major tunnel mods are required, the case is HUGE.

Full throttle no clutch shifts are harsh...most guys either use the clutch or let off the throttle a little to shift. Air shifted transmissions are used in those extreme full throttle and no clutch situations= $$$$$$ I bet Jim could break one....1st gear drop at 100MPH;)

If that's the case that would be great...I'd be curious to see if anyone has done a write-up on that swap in the trans section.

I'd like to see some strip results first, in fact, if they send me one, I'll test it:thumbsup:
Heck, wouldn't Loader and the "GLOVE" be the real test  If it's breakable, he'll be the one

Re: Keilers new 6 speed

I'd like to know at what weight vehicle they rate their transmission at 1000 ft. lbs. since most companies won't disclose that information without knowing vehicle weight....it's a sliding scale. A 2000lb. race car rating is a lot different than a 3800 lb. Chevelle rating.

l:) You're right about that.:D
Has anyone ever wondered what Loader does with the left glove when He buys the pair?????? It's like a mystery.

Wonder If I can have them to activate my nitrous button. :hurray:

Re: Keilers new 6 speed

That tranny would be a great choice for a pro touring car, at least a REAL one. The dog-rings are not easy on any drivetrain components and I sure wouldn't recommend them for a daily driver for durability or just the ease of driving. Probably pretty harsh on main bearings also. It's nice to see Keisler has stepped up and filled a hole in the performance market for a true double overdrive warrior. I run 355 gears with 27.5" tires with a '95 T56 with the 2.66 first and .5 sixth gear. The chevelle needs at least 75 mph to use top gear and not hear the cam lope. If I had had them laying around, I'd swap in a set of 373's or 390 rear gears and probably be a lot happier. Haven't seen the pricetag but I'd bet it's over $4k.

I'd do my best to help them find their weak link!

Found a link to more pricing and information on the pro-touring site. http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63513 $6495 + $995 assembly + core charge(who knows how much $$$ that is), YIKES!!!! At that price I could almost buy 3 more brand new Jerico DR4s. Nice trans, but that's definitely a niche market piece.
