Along with Jakes and Jim aka "Cruiser77" excellent advice here in this forum on these units,I just wanted to remind people to please use a either a late 70's TH200 servo, GN "694" or a Fairbanks/Superior Super servo for a nice firm 1-2 and 2-3 shift.
Also,it is a nice upgrade if you don't have all ready one.
Also doesn't require taking out the trans or dropping the pan.
Unless you have one of the above mentioned servos, forget about that firm shift, even with a shift kit installed.

Here's another useful tidbit. My 200-4R had firm, tire-chirping 1-2 and 2-3 shifts under partial throttle, and a good firm 2-3 shift under wide open throttle at 5600rpm, but the 1-2 shift at wide open throttle was very sloppy, no matter what my tranny guys tried. They finally figured out the pickup was sucking air on the WOT 1-2 shift. Overfilling the fluid firmed the 1-2 WOT shift up perfectly. A 200-4R really needs a deep pan, but the deep pan does no good unless you get the filter/pickup down at the bottom of the pan, and I don't think anyone currently makes a bolt-in for this. You would have to fab something. I currently run mine about 2qts overfilled, and so far it doesn't seem to hurt anything. No leaks either. If you compare the filter from a 200-4r to a 700R4 filter, the opening on the 200-4R is on the top side of the filter, whereas the opening on the 700R4 is on the bottom. The 200-4R basically has a stupid filter design.

The Art Carr pan uses a 700 filter that sits lower, as well as has bottom feed.

Other pan designs also use a deeper filter setup.

Mike,do you still have the stock pan on yours?
Yes. After extensive searching, I turned up a couple of deeper, cast aluminum pans for a 200-4R, but they were very pricey (over $200) and didn't include a deeper screen, so I didn't see any point to it. If somebody comes out with a deeper pan that includes a deeper pickup though, I would definitely consider buying it.

EDIT, just saw the post above, I'll have to check out the Art Carr pan.
