If you can take it yourself to a scrap yard they are paying 8 cents a pound. (in NC don't know about CA).
I got $255 for a junk Caprice a week ago.

Unfortunately, I don't have any means of getting the truck to a scrap yard. No trailer, no tow vehicle rated to tow such a vehicle, and no way to get the truck onto the trailer. Would have been nice to score a little money, but not possible. At this point, I just want to get 'er gone and out of my hair :)

post a ad on craigslist. post it for $200. I bet its gone in less than 2 hours. only because of the steel. Guy I work with posted a 87 volvo. running motor, bad tranny. advertised it for 200 bucks guy tried to offer 150. he already had a trailer with him, Bob told him price was firm. and the guy bought it anyway. In 2 hours he had about 6 calls, most of them wanted to recycle it. jim

I hauled in a 93 Topaz 4 dr today that runs and drives good but has a blown head gasket.
Got it off of Craig's List for $150. (was asking $200.)

Called another guy on an 88 Ranger "with bad motor" priced at $200. and he said he would take $150. but it's 76.5 miles away so I think I'll probably pas on it especially since he got rid of the 5 speed already.

There are a lot of scrappers checking Craig's List.

Scrap steel is at $225. per ton around here now.
An 80 GMC 1-ton truck will probably bring $500.00

The truck has no motor, tranny, or bed which would significantly decrease the weight of the vehicle. Also, the salvage yards really don't want to buy it because of the lack of motor, tranny, and bed. Last time I got an offer several years ago, the salvage yard wanted me to PAY $50 for them to tow it away. I'd give it away for FREE to anyone willing to tow it away. It's been parked at my dad's house since June 2000. I don't want to bother him with it, since it's my problem . I live 250 miles away, presenting its own challenges.

Too bad some of you didn't live closer. Free truck to haul to salvage and a 12-er of beer for your genorocity to haul it away :)

If your just going to have it gone for nothing. At least do yourself a favor and remove the cat converter(s) if it has them. You get some decent money for them and there is no need for any truck and trailer to haul it away yourself.

Just making sure:

It's 2wd right? A lot of the 1 ton 4wds had Dana 60 fronts and those can run $1500-2000. 250 miles north of you is just a tad too far still for me to buzz down with my trailer (winch equipped) and help you out. I'd go with the guys who said craigslist. Whatever you get out of it just give it to Dad for storage :D

I threw it up on Craigslist. Now I have to deal with scammers :boring:. It's 2wd. Chassis is solid, but body is basically junk. No cats. Really, nothing left (I poached all the good parts :) ).

I'll throw an ad up in the TC Classifieds in case any TC'ers close to where the truck is at might want it.

Jeff, it's actually near Victorville, CA. So, 250 miles South of me!

Thanks for the responses. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Last week I got rid of my POS 95 Grand Prix... Blown Head Gaskets, couldn't open the doors, and I lost the ignition key. Tow truck came and and dragged it up. Paid me $275.00 for it. They said all the were concerned about was if I had a title, because they are paid by the ton.

We scrapped a friend's 71 Toronado rustbucket a few weeks ago, we took off the rebuilt carb, the alternator, battery, Flowmasters. We removed the new tires and wheels when we got there.........he got 440.00 for what was left. He offered it on Craigslist as a running, driving, emissions passing car for 500 OBO and had no calls.

local recycle yard told me they only pay $100 ton for cars because of the glass and upholstery etc etc that is not metal.
They are paying $150 a ton for tin (sheet metal thickness) and $250 ton for heavy metals.
I made $124 last week off a bunch of weights and metal junk I had gathering dust around the ranch

Been on Craigslist for one day - no bites. No bites here on TC either. Even my close friend that lives near where the truck is never replied to my e-mail (although he did send some SPAM forward crap!). Truck is probably in the wrong area or nobody wants easy $$. I think I'll just go the route of Junk my Car.com and be done with this thing. My dad is going to sell his house soon, so I need it gone.

Wish I could get money for it, but I want it out of my hair pronto.
