Umm pretty sure the Government told them to start building Elect Cars by the way
and GM did not make the Batteries / So if you want to blame anyone Blame the Battery Makers

I am not a fan of the Electric Cars
as there are other/better fuels that will not pollute our environment
like the Batteries will

Owned a Vega & a Pinto and 2 Cavaliers for daily Drivers / did not drive my Muscle Car to work in the crazy Traffic
ALL of them worked great and gave great / better Gas Mileage than
compared to what was being Sold as Daily Drivers back then

Honestly… this just proves the technology is not reliable yet.
I’m for electric, but we are years away from making them reliable and maximizing driving range and minimizing charging durations.

They should stick to what they can do well and stay away from fashionable trends.

Hard to believe that we made fun of foreign cars in 70's, and see this pile of junk made and sold today. Ah, and the Vega Pinto and Cavaliers.

This is what happens when finance people make cars and engineers are sidelined.

Snicker, laugh, chortle, always happy to hear of Electrique Freque problems in the hope that it slows the rush to EV hell.
I dread where the EV mandate ends.
Probably cannot state it aloud without being told to turn my tinfoil hat around but at 66 I've seen how Gov. Org. and "Green" collusion ends up.
Really hoping the EV charade goes south soon, before legislation becomes "The way it is", so irreversible.

My wife had an 84' Cavalier 5-speed 2.0, coupe with a sunroof when we met. It became our first car when we got married. It was the car we took our newborn daughter home from the hospital in. Then she bought an Escort GT and I got the Cavalier. I did the body work and had it repainted at Earl Schieb. I put a nice stereo in it too. I loved that car. When it started to fall apart again, I traded it for a 94' Camaro V6 manual because I could not afford the Z28.

All of our recently married cars were cheap and disposable. The first "good" car we owned was an Acura Integra.

Just in time for the infrastructure bill, which should bring more pause. I'm all for alternative fuels but at a safe transition rate....and an affordable one.
I heard GM's advice today, "keep your Bolts outside!".....great advice, but imo, didn't go far enough. If I had one, it'd be parked in the street.

From what I read, there are 2 major issues with batteries for electric cars 1) they need to be smaller 2) hold more charge. We are nowhere near that goal. With semiconductors we are.

An addition, I asked a few EC fans re how and where are they going to dispose of the batteries that is "safe", so far I have not heard a doable answer.

I did not mean to bash anyone's Vega, Pinto or Cavalier. I had a Vega, and a friend a Pinto. Mine seized the engine, and his the trans. So going by personal experience, they were designed to self destruct and not roadworthy or safe.

Think the Chip shortage for new cars is a problem?
The EV dream is currently impossible for component source reasons as well as our weak electrical grid.
There is currently* only ONE Lithium mine in the entire US, it is at Silver Peak Nevada.
A second viable Lithium mine site has been located, also in Nevada.
Guess who is sueing and camping on the new site to prevent any mining being done?
Yep, the same "Green" £!&%^$! that are pushing EV's!
So brush up on your Mandarin, because China has pretty well cornered the market on Lithium by various means, just as they have with the "Rare Earth" materials also required.
I'm sure I should not point out at this time where the RE's so much of the world was hoping would break the China near-monopoly are located. China is now positioned to control that source too.

*Several possible additional sites are known but the NIMBY's and "Green's" are certain to block most of them.

They were meant to be disposable, that was the point. After my Vega started using more oil than gas, out came the 4 banger, and in went a 350. That woke up the Vega, but I twisted the unibody from "playing" too much, but it was a blast while I had it.

I then bought a Pontiac Sunbird hatchback and a wrecked Buick Skyhawk and dropped the V6 231 from the Skyhawk into the Sunbird. Not as fast as the Vega 350, but still fun.

Well you know what fellas, that carbon neutral biodiesel I used to play with is non-volatile and wont ignite unless under extreme ( 22:1 compression) pressure. I sure wish they went forward with diesel locomotive tech in cars.

PS I think I;ve swore off GM products for life due to such issues. Blasphemie I know, but the facts warrant it. Now y'all know why the CIA didnt like my rebellious nature. NEVER GM for me.

Pssstttt If you read the article you posted, you'd see it was the battery packs that were failing. They're made by a company called LG Chem. Hyundai is using the same company and are recalling their cars equipped with the same issue.

That may be, but then GM and Hyndai are in the same category then.
As in they're both being held liable for a 3rd party manufacturing a substandard product that is sealed with no way of testing? You are correct.

Ultimately the responsibility is with the manufcturer. Same with us if we buy a subpar product. Problem with GM is they lost they soul, they can but do not build quality cars except the vette. This is what "next quarter earnings" mentality does.
Exactly. This is a fail on GM's component manufacturing and supply chain folks for selecting parts from 3rd party suppliers that are not quality. GM could have selected better quality parts.
