I did find that gas tank harness in a box with other harnesses. It had a rubber gromet on it and the end that went on the tank had a small pin like connection and the other end connected where you said it would in the middle of the taillight harness,so I guess 69 and 71 -72 are the same.

I had to order a reverse backup switch from hurst, I was going to use any plunger type switch but I wasn't sure if it could carry the current for the 2 backup bulbs and I wasn't sure it was water proof.

Acually the 69 and 72 fuel tank wires are not the same. At least M & H Wiring lists them as separate part numbers. Looks like you are getting there. Good Luck.
