Instead of doing the junk yard walk to find a good JGC box, I decided to go with the Lares 1353 from Rock. I actually got it in Nov/Dec and just got around last night to taking things apart to install it. With the steering box on the work bench, it turns 3.25 turns lock-to-lock. After removing the original box from my 71 Chevelle wagon, I did the same thing - put it on the bench and turned it by hand; it turned 3.25 turns lock-to-lock. I seem to remember a few years ago when I put a used JGC box in my 68 that it turned about 2.50 turns lock-to-lock. How many turns lock-to-lock on the workbench should the Lares be? Did I possibly get shipped a mismarked box. If so, it's been more than 30 days and I hope that Rock will replace it if necessary. Comments/info please.
Do not know the difference. I installed a Jeep G.C. box on my 71 SS 454 Sta. Wgn. about 4-5 years ago. Mine was from A. Zone ( Cardone). Love it and will never go back to the 70 Vell box.

Take a protractor and measure the sweep of the pitman shaft. A Jeep Grand Cherokee (1992 1/2 through 1998) power steering gear box should have a sweep of 87 degrees (full lock to full lock.) That particular power gear box should be a fast ratio (12.7:1).
12.7 x 87/360 = 3.07 input shaft turns.
This will help tell you if you have the correct power steering gear. If the box doesn't meet the above two specs for sweep and input shaft turns; the gear box was mislabeled, the company that (remanufactured?) the gear box didn't have much quality control, or the company just didn't care.
My worries were unfounded. The measurement were good. I installed the box and the box is handling the way it is supposed to be!
