Proprietary would mean they can't tell you who made it, not that they can't tell you where it came from.

If they won't it says to me they are ordering that part from multiple manufacturers. You used to see that with Holley Chevrolet mechanical fuel pumps, they used two different suppliers, we would find pumps within the same shipment with the same part number that would have either 1/4npt or 3/8npt inlet and outlets.

At this point in time I don't think I'd order anything other than a GMPP HEI.

You would think that if it was US made, that would be sales feature, a plus, a bonus & the maker would be eager to sell the US-made feature, not hide it.....
So you decide....

Personally I think most are made in China, some go into a plain box & get sold by Summit & others go into a MSD box & the price doubled.....

Cripes, looks like he let his domain name expire. Dang.

[edit] Looks like it's only temporary. He's stuck in the middle with web hosting providers.

I bought one of those, made in China.
I had some trouble with the vacuum advance sticking when it would get hot.
JEGS was very good to deal with, good customer service.
You may have better luck with that one than I did. I ended up buying a Mallory unit and it's been good.

You may be right on that...the distributor looks awfully close to MSD 8361. Jegs has a cheaper line thought the SSD might be better. It shows to have a melonized gear and shaft bearing. I thought about Dave..I can deal with his crankiness but I've seem some people have had trouble with contact. Can't deal with that. Had an MSD 85551 at one time but the 6AL went out pretty quick so I want one that doesn't require a box. I've had some of the cheap distributors too. Pins\weights wear out quick. Moroso was okay but no small cap that I know of. DUI has one guess I'll check with them also. I know they use stock bodies. Thanks for the input. By the way I bought a GMPP fuel pump and it was a piece of S**T. Leaked oil externally after about 4 race nights.

I have used a number of the Chinese HEIs, zero problems. I can buy the Chev & Ferd ones for $60, $80 for Pontiac, Olds etc. And they come with adjustable vac adv, most important. You do have to check/modify the centri curve, but that goes for any dist.

On the Jeg's unit, take a close look, it ISN'T an HEI, it IS an MSD Ready to Run, with special module that is problem prone, I fix a lot of them. To replace the module, take the entire distributor apart, un-solder the pickup, redo in reverse order. Do that by the side of the road, and get a new module from any auto parts store. They have enough problems, I call them "Ready to Quit". Some, not many people have used a different coil than the Blaster ones, and have had them live a bit longer, but it is only a matter of time.

Yes, I get "cranky", from posters like that one that called me that, and others that don't have the integrity to tell it EXACTLY like it is, and there are plenty of them.

Import, PLEASE, don't ever try one of my conversions, I don't want to hear how it worked well for you, because I hate people grousing after they are dead wrong. Boo-Hoo, he is such a bad guy......TOO BAD.

YES, old website is down, domain is well and active, with new host getting set up as we speak. InMotion Hosting held my site for 17 years, was done on an old, done in program called Front Page, but, when I went to redo it, 16 months ago, IM H said they no longer supported FP, go to Word Press, and refused to help, even when they carged me 17 bucks per month to host. I tried with the WP "builder", not a computer specialist, nor web site builder, only got a "blog", whatever that is. Now have new, smaller, with more pictures I am teaching myself to build, will get back up by first of October. As I still OWn the domain name, it will be back.

Tom, I am sending you a new, temporary email address for me, for this stuff, please use as needed. When the new site gets up and operating, it will become a secondary contact for tech and other things that I don't have an email set up to do in the former site. If anyone wants the temp address, please ask Tom.

Please realize, I am ONE person, not squadrons of people running around in circles over hyping their products, and, I am also on 4 local county service boards, along with run two food programs locally, one for senior citizens, one for everybody else that isn't a millionaire.

Now, if you don't work 16 plus hours per day, EVERY DAY, and don't give of yourself to help others, AND still try to run a business at 68 years old along the way, STOP TRYING TO BURY MINE.

Also, about three months ago, I got bit by a Brown Recluse spider, I was very sick for a while, but still worked through it, try that for fun, if you don't want to, just keep your hate and vitriol to yourselves.

If you don't like my "attitude" in this post, too bad, I am sick and tired of defending myself for trying to push past the misinformation that is posted to try to help others get it done right, then get flamed for attempting to help. Lots of ways to mess it up, usually only ONE to fix it right.

The BRs are nasty, that probably didn't look pretty. Glad you got through it.

Ready-T0-Quit, yep. Not only that but in a fit of cleverness they solder on the wires so you can't even change out the junk module quickly. A step down/backward from the ebay "Fake HEI's" although I didn't think there could ever be such a thing. I know a guy who went through three of those, farthest he got was 7 miles. At times we've joked about the $50 fake HEI thing being a undercover sales tool for AAA. No idea whatever why Geoff's experience is so different. But, not everybody has the same results and that's OK. It's a big world out there.

A friend of mine here in Az just put a $2100 MSD magneto setup in his new sprint car. The box crapped out at the first race. Nice. He had an existing Vertex that worked fine but was older then the hills. MSD? as usual, they blamed his car.

I don't have the Jeg's distributor in front of me which is why I asked if anyone has an experience with it...There are a number of "jegs" distributors. So you are saying THIS distributor has an integral module that is non-replaceable as designed? I was looking at this distributor because it does look much like the msd and the quality of msd weights, pins, etc is much better that what I have seen with the el cheapo distributors and replacement MSD weights springs, bushing are easily attainable. I know the MSD (83647) large cap module is junk but that's easily remedied as well. I know nothing about the RTR small cap distributor which is WHY I'M ASKING. (Anyone).
DUI's small cap version looks serviceable. GM Tri-Power Ignition System - Performance Distributors Performance Distributors I have nothing else to say about the rest of your reply and don't feel obligated to reply to this.

Wow, that DUI dist is $300. They could have at least turned a flat spot on the bottom and mounted the module there instead of hanging off the side like that.

You'll probably have to call them during business hours to get any detail info about their stuff. Their site doesn't really say much.
