I have a feeling from the minor amount of knowledge I have on boosters and brakes as whole that it is the diaphram in the booster that is bad.

As soon as my buddy starts his 99 Jeep Cherokee you can hear a fairly loud vacuum leak around the brake pedel in the cab.

Where to start, where to end?

Any testing I can do to narrow it down?

Run the engine awhile to build vacuum.

Shut it off. Wait ten seconds.

Step on the brake pedal. Is there still power assist? If no assist, the booster is junk.

Should be enough vacuum stored in the booster for two or three ASSISTED stops with the engine shut off.
