Jarrets 5000 pound fully loaded 2003 Z71 4x4 runs 10.50 at Vegas this weekend. The limit with the stock factory 6.0L cracked rods was found, when finally the rod failed, from a break in the center of the beam. The truck was on a much more turned up pass than the 10.50 pass, 60 foot was a 1.43, 330 4.19, then the rod failed, so it safe to say this truck had some 10.20s in it before it broke, which this is a shame because this was truly an every day driver, we even hauled engine cores in this truck, Well at least it will be back again, but this time it will not have a stock GM bottom end, and 9 sec passes will follow. It's really fast, what was the weather like? Was time of day was the 10.50 run? That track is 2200+ feet before weather corrections. Turbochargers kind of change the weather factoring, but none the less that really takes a lot of power.

That is moving for sure.....and besides the weight, not much aerodynamics with a p/u either.

Alright, I'm ticked off. As the unofficial ambassador (and sometime fully clothed remote cocktail server) in these parts, I expect to be alerted to TC arrivals. Me and Greg (GSOUPME) had planned on going to the track, even after I had discovered my sprag failure. Not having a suitable donor out in the yard kinda took the wind out of my sails.

Running mid 10's in a truck probably turned a few of the laughing gas powered sewing machine drivers heads out there. I suspect there was a good turn out since it has been a month since the last open track night.

Will the truck pass tech? I'm thinkng not, in which case, I'm sure you'll be back. It's about the only place around that will let you run what you brung. Just don't do it on Wednesday or Saturday, because they will give you the boot. Once that happens, they pretty much ban you from running on Friday night, as well.

PM me next time your coming. Many a TCer will attest, it will definitely be to your advantage. I'm only 15 minutes from the track and have any number of resources at my disposal.

I imagine that your still in town. I'd like to be able to get together, unfortunately, I have a ton of stuff to get together before heading out to Death Valley for a fashion shoot, including airport pick ups and tracking down our model. I worked all last week with her on another job, we had two days off between jobs, now she's MIA. If your staying at the Luxor, be on the look out for a six foot, 19 year old Ukrainian, Victoria Secret model named Margaryta Senchylo. She was going to go to the drags with us on Friday, but that didn't happen.

Definitely get ahold of me on future Vegas outtings. I may be in Denver for the Pinks All out this August.

I found her, she's out front riding the Odessey's up and down the street with my daughter. Watch the neighbors call the cops. They'll have no idea what the hell languge she's speaking. She's Ukranian, but lives in Milan, Italy. I'm off to the airport to pick up the last two that will be riding with me to Death Valley.

Mark,
Be sure to get in touch next time. The officials know me pretty well out there. They've been known to grab a helmet from a cycle rider staged a couple of spots behind, then jump in the passenger seat.

STOCK48 at the strip:D Don't have much access to a computer out hear, I'll be able to talk more in a few days. The 10.59 was an easy run, low boost run hot off the street. I had just idled over two hours in traffic to get into the speedway. Hood latch broke from the repeated openong and closing, so I had to remove the hood prior to running. That combined with the tight .68 AR exhaughst housing killed my MPH. When I turned up the boost to 14psi the factory rods finally rebelled. It was off to a record pass for sure despite the 94* temp and near 6000' da. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/MY-10-SEC-Z71-THE-STRIP_162032.htm?ref=RECENTVIDEOS

Jarrett,
I assume that you mean the L.V. Strip, as opposed to "The Strip at L.V.M.S.". Good luck with that. The casino's can cost you a whole lot more than a connecting rod.

Not knowing whether you drove, trailered or have multiple vehicles with you in Vegas, I wonder if your in need of anything to get everything back to Colorado. I am in Tonopah, NV., 200 miles north, right now. Death Valley was 118* yesterday, so the wussie fashion folk moved us north. Still 102* here. I may be back in Vegas briefly on Wednesday morning to drop off the current model and to pick up the next, Bridget Hall. Otherwise, probably not back til Friday.

Nonetheless, I have a car hauler sitting at the house, semi easily accessible, should you need it to mobilize the Z71. Let me know, my cell #702-499-9023. I'm not too worried who has it, a good deal of TCer's already do, those with ill intention can get it easily enough.

If you've lost all your coin and looking for cheap, dirty entertainment, you're welcome to take a couple of the Odessey's out to Nellis Dunes (mile past LVMS on LV Blvd). Ya break'em, Ya buy'em type deal. Two of them, one 390cc 4 stroke and one stock 250cc 2 stroke are ready to go and dependable. Maybe need a puff of air in a tire now and then.

Call if any of this flips your skirt or if you expect to be in town until the weekend.

Hey thanks for the hospitality Rowdy! Im in Ca now for the next couple of days. I towed the truck out from Co, to Henderson, NV this time with my Dmax. I only drove it from Henderson to the track. I had a gut feeling it was getting ready to let go. My friend ended up hooking me up with his AAA so the tow back to henderson only cost me a $20 tip I gave the tow truck driver:thumbsup:. One of my friends and best customers lives there in Vegas so Im out there periodically. I will hit you up next time Im in town, and maybe we can grab a bite to eat or something.

Sounds like a plan.

LVMS will have Midnite Mayhem twice a month through October. November usually only has one, with the first week of December being the last of the year.

I'll be in Sturgis from mid July to mid August, that is why I was considering the PINKS ALL OUT up in Denver. The track pulled some crap with the registration, advertising online one date, then opening it up for locals a week or so before. There was a last chance drawing for some remaining spots, I didn't bother sending in the required 3" X 5" index card. I'm not all that upset about it, I think the locals should have priority. Experience (L.V. & Tucson) tells me that there will likely be approx 100 no shows, it would be nice if they would let those willing to show up on race day, fill the vacancies. Apparently it is much better to bitch, every episode seems to mention it.

If we start some dialog now, an impromptu gathering of western TCers may be a consideration. Late summer, early fall would probably be best. Many have expressed envy that LVMS let's us run 'em (street cars) full tilt at Midnite Mayhem, the biggest draw back is the heat and that it occurs on a Friday, which usually means taking at least one day off for most.

Anybody that has an inkling of considering it can take a peak at the schedule at www.lvms.com . If there is more than a passing interest, we'll start a dedicated thread, if for no other reason than to motivate ourselves.

I'd love to attend Chevellebration, I just don't see it in the foreseeable future. I'm sure that I'm not alone, especially for those further west and/or north than me. One thing about a Vegas get together, there really doesn't need to be much organization or coordination. The city itself offers everything from lodging to collateral stimuli. Pick a Friday, show up, go with the flow. If nothing else, you'll get to see what your tech challenged ride will do. Hopefully have a little fun on the side too.

Sorry Jarrett, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but I got all excited at the thought of lining up next to something made in America. I know that you know what I mean.

I'll test the waters with a new thread in the performance forum.

Mark and Jarrett,
What would be potentially good for you guys. Daryl picked an interesting weekend, Street Car Super Nationals. Another might be October 17, PSCA is in town. Just noticed MM's every week in June and three in September. When do think the Z71 will back up to snuff?

It will be going by mid summer. Engine will be finished in a couple weeks, but I need to freshen the trans&converter, and beef up the fuel system.

Nice run Jarrett!!!!!!!

So, when you get it rebuilt will it still be your daily driver?
Thank's Carl! Of course it will be my daily driver. I will drive it even more than before, because I won't have to worry about it blowing up and leaving me stranded:D

You could upgrade to one of those extra stout G.M. "LSX" blocks. Good strong parts always pay dividends when you start stressing the equipment.

That would be nice, but now I need to see how far I can push the factory block, and crank with good parts. Im going to be building these engines for people, and I need to see what they can take.
