You need to tell itunes where your music is located. Its in the iTunes options.

By default I believe it goes into the my music folder / itunes but can be changed and pointed to where your music is stored. Sounds like it doesnt know where to look. Once thats done you can sync, convert, etc.

Its been awhile since I toyed with it but that sounds like what needs to be done.

Can also try "help" in itunes and look for setting up synch, it should walk you right through it.

You have to get an iTunes account and down load them on to iTunes then move them to your Ipod.

There might be another way to do it but that's the way my son moves his.

Only if you want to purchase songs from them. You can copy from CD to your computer then like Beaux said tell Itunes where they are and to sync the ipod with the computer.

My son has only bought about 10 songs off iTunes. The rest he down loaded off our pc on to his iTune account and then moved them to his ipod. It's free to move songs from your pc to iTunes. He has about 300 songs on his.

If your songs were on the computer before installing iTunes or if they were not "burned" off of one of you CD's or purchased via iTunes, you need to "import songs" (in the "File" menu). It will be easier if you have or can put all of the music files in 1 folder before you import them. If you can't you can just import them from the folder where they are located.

From the iTunes Help menu:

Here are ways to add items to your iTunes library:

Drag a file or folder from the Finder to the iTunes window.

If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.

In iTunes, choose File > “Add to Library,” locate a file or folder, and then click Choose.

By default, iTunes places a copy of each audio file in the iTunes folder (inside [Home]/Music); the original file remains in the current location.
