Im resurrecting my 70 Convertible which has been in storage for 10+ years. The motor in this car was the first I had ever built at age 19. Like many at age 19 I trusted the guy at the local speed shop knew what he was talking about and I purchased all of the parts from him. The motor is 350 .030 over; Stock crank and rods. Pistons are typical cast low compression replacements w/4 vavle reliefs with stock 76 cc heads. Intake is weiand dual plane. Carb Im running is a 625 CFM holley with electric choke. This is a very basic stock motor and seems to idle like a stock cam. The cam the guy sold me I do not have the card or specs on so I was wondering if anyone had any idea because typical to form Crane has no idea. Its was called at the time "The Econopower". Anyone have any idea on the specs of this cam. I figure it needs new vavle springs and would like to match the correct springs to the cam. Ive considered replacing the cam, lifters and springs but with all the flat tappet cam failures and this one being broken in just fine, and a whopping 40K easy miles on it Im having a hard time convincing myself to replace it.
Currently car has a dual system with diameter of 1 3/4" connected to stock exhaust manifolds. It has a TH400 backed by the 10 bolt 3.08 single peg rear.

It ran great before storage and knocked down 15-17 mpg all day if I kept my foot out of the gas. Goal is to dirve daily again, increase my power a little and maybe even pick up more MPG.

I have a new 2.5" mandel bent dual system and some 1 5/8 primaty tube hooker headers I had planned to install.

Wanted some suggestions on best bang for the buck performance increases and if any cam info please inform.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

This line of cams has had several names over the years. Econopower, HMV (hydraulic max velocity), and now they use powermax. Off the top of my head there are 5 cams in this lineup, although the 266 didn't come out until much later than the others.

248/260, 192/[email protected], .400/.427, 112lsa

260/272, 204/[email protected], .427/.454, 112lsa

266/272, 210/[email protected], .440/.454, 114lsa

272/284, 216/[email protected], .454/.480, 112 lsa

278/290, 222/[email protected], .467/.494, 114lsa

You probably have the 260, as it and the 272 where pretty common. The 260 is still a very good cam, especially with exhaust manifolds, and it sounds pretty much stock. The 272 has just a bit of rump to it at idle.

I had a Crane fireball cam in my 350 in highschool. 216 @ .050 and .454 lift, ran really good, great torque and milage for what it was. I would keep the cam, just take precautions at every oil change and use additives.
