My '70 L34 (TH400) with V01 heavy duty radiator had two instances of overheating in really hot weather last summer. Is my fan shroud the correct one for my engine/radiator combination or should the shroud extend past the fan more?

You might see if you can burp the system it might have an air lock in the coolant. How many core radiator do you have? Have you had it rodded out lately? Any bent fins up front? I am not even running my fan shroud and have had no trouble with overheating. But I also have a 4 core radiator.

Is that the factory fan? It looks like you have a small bladed aftermarket flex fan on it, am I correct or mistaken? You might try one with larger blades or find one of the factory clutch fans. It will have larger blades and probably would give you more airflow.

look inside the radiator to see how many cores. I successfull cooled a 454 with a 2 core for years.

There may be other problems if your OH'g. Putting a bigger cooler in won't necessarily help. What are you symptoms?

I agree with the earlier post. Start with a burp and a flush.

Just like my 2 year old son!
