I don't see anything to indicate it isn't an SS. As Brad pointed out, it has the "Big Block" intermediate shaft which is a detail most cloners don't get right. Gauges were an option, even on an SS, so that doesn't mean anything.

Looks like a nice car. :)

It is missing the gauges. Not sure that means anything.
It doesn't. Gauges (RPO U14) were optional even on SS cars. They were not part of the base SS396 cars from 66-68 nor were they part of the SS option from 69-72. In fact, gauges could be ordered on any 66-72 Malibu V8 coupe/convertible/sedan pickup - no SS needed. :)

I've seen the bolt on type flange on the steering column on non-SS 69 Chevelles as well (a 307 300 Deluxe series Chevelle comes to mind), FWIW.

Buy it Andy, you can drive it home. I saw a '69 ss vert (blue and white) in PCB Fla this past week and thought of you. Looks good.

That very same car was for sale on this site FOREVER, although at that time it was a private owner selling his wife's car.
Jason,

Are you sure it's the same car? I know there was one the same color combo, from TN, but I am thinking it had add-on in dash air conditioning. The one I'm thinking of was in TX a number of years ago before it went to TN.

JK is the 396/325HP TH400. Notice the Heat riser remains on the original manifold. If the TH400 is properly VIN stamped along with the Block, it is no doubt an original SS car.

A look at the fonts on the trans/ engine and "L" on the cowl tag should make this an easy verification as there were no 396/TH400 applications available in non SS cars in 69.
