Several milleniums ago BBD suggested starting at the rear to get better performance. Good advice. Get your rear gears where you want them and tailor the rest of the combo to them and your weight/torque. May cost a chunk of bucks up front but worth it. You would be suprised at the difference in acceleration (if thats what you are looking for) with the gear swap versus bad driveability and other possible problems with to much of a converter.
