Yes to many it is but it is your car, do with it as you like.

Most here would say don't do anything to it that can't be easily reversed. Wheels and paint are undone easily, crazy doors and other stuff is not.

Thanks for your honest opinion. I actually knew a lot of people would not agree but like you said it is revesable. I want to fix it up and probably sell it down the line if not pass it down to my son or something. My other concern was the engine. I mathced the VIN to be a 307 2 barrel but I bought it with a 350 4 barrel and a 400T trans. Everything under the car is in very good condition no rust on body or frame looks like it was very well taken care. Will the change in the engine lose its appeal? Also is this a good engine and trans set up?

the 400 might be overkill, but if it's working fine leave it alone.

a for hte engine change, it's probably worth MORE with the 350.

Depends on what's done with that 350. I have a 400TH in my Chevelle and it works fine w/my 350, but it's not stock anymore.

As other members have said, it's your ride, do what you want to it. However, with the "mods" you have done to it, there may be a smaller group that's interested in buying it in the current state of modification.

Have fun with it for a while and go from there. Good luck either way.

What you need to do is put it up for sale on craigslist and put a link on "whats it worth" but dont tell anybody its yours... The guys on here will
Flame the hell out of your car... There was a new escalade on some 28" or 30" rims and to me it looked ok but there was 5 pages of flamers lol and it was a BIG truck!

If you can, hang on to the original engine/tranny so when you sell the car the original parts can go with it.

Beware, a 307 and 350 use different engine mounts and frame mounts. I learned this the hard way.

Thanks guys, aside from power loss (or something) i just noticed, everything worked great the firs 2 months i got it. i drove it from houston to mcallen with no problems at all. but as i mentioned i just noticed im having to push the pedal all the way down for it to speed up like it did before with out me having to push it all the way down. i think perhaps its a carb problem because it was woking fine until one morning. i was warming up the car one cool morning it had been on for about 2-3min when i turned it off to go back in to the house. when i returned i tried to start the car but it wouldnt. pumped the gas and tried turning it on a few more times befroe it finally did and subsequent to that i noticed the power loss thing. perhaps its just me, or could there actually be something carb? I also contemplated that it could be a hole in the pipes that go from the manifold to the mufflers (i think its the header thing) as they are pretty old and rusted. the mufflers though look bradn new from the manifold all the way to the back.

I dont know....If Superman were your best friend would it be unorthodox to give him kryptonite for his birthday?

The thing for me is that this look is and always will be permanently attached to the term "ghetto fabulous". What folks have not learned over the years is that once you cross the ghetto border that "fabulous" cant go with you. Ghetto fabulous is fabulous in the ghetto....outside the ghetto its commonly referred to as "damn....really?"

In the end its what you and your son enjoy driving so our opinions really dont matter much, especially in the sense that most here wouldnt be in the potential buyer pool unless the things you have done are reversible and the price was dirt cheap. Potential buyers will be fans of the ghetto fabulous look....but I have learned over the years that these folks usually look like they have money....but live in a 1 bedroom apartment with a couple of lawn chairs. Mainly, like the cars they roll - all show, no go.

Just being honest with my opinion on all cars done this way, not specific to you and your ride. You sound like a great dad with a love for the car, just putting it down as I see it every day. Reduced performance, added weight, reduced potential buyer pool. Its the easiest way you can throw a lot of money at a car and then take a mean hit on the sale.

You guys are right I don’t think too many people on here like the kind of idea and preferences I have in mind for my 72. No one has replied on my “welcome” forum whereas I received a dozen on this post:(. It’s ok though everyone has their own tastes and what I really need guidance on is with the engine and mechanical stuff. I want to get in there and start from scrap but I don’t know. The 350 and trans are working ok aside from the power issue i mentioned. The interior is all original I would rate it at 8/10. I tried to post a pic to this thread but it tells me that I cant because I have already attached that same pic to the “welcome” forum. Does anyone know another way or if its even possible to post that pic here as well?

Ive been working on my first ever Chevelle. Ive already painted it candy apple red and put 24" wheels with rubber band tires. Is this considered unorthodox?
The guys on this site are really not into that style of vehicle (24's)
In fact the responses have been fairly polite. I will say this, if somebody who doesn't know you comes across your car at a show and takes photos or sees photos of your car somewhere on the internet with 24" wheels. It may get photos posted here with people really trashing the car. I am not telling you this to be rude or run you off, as everybody is welcome to post here. I just want you to be prepared if that were to happen. (it has happened before).
As far as somebody else mentioning to keep the original 307, no way - forget about that. An original 307 is not desirable even if numbers matching. an upgrade to a 350 is way more desirable. Your car do it your way. You are really the only person it has to please. (unless you are trying to sell the car).

Derek69SS...ouch
trips67chevelle....preciate that
Beaux....right on couldnt have said it better

I appreciated all of you guy’s responses and opinions. I knew what I was asking and knew what to expect. And to clarify a little it actually wasn’t my plan to fix the car up like this (it’s not like I regret it I actually like the way it ended up looking) and then sell it. I actually never planned on selling it. The way it has been getting fixed just so happened to come about by coincidence. Had a guy that owed me money, he gave me some wheels. My brother n law owns a body shop and had extra paint lying around, took advantage of that. So it’s no a big deal how it’s judged. It is a head turner I do get tons of compliments though. I just fell totally in love with it (the actual car) and then reading about its history that just got me even more into it and I plan on dedicating my time to it. If I do plan to ever sell it however I could just paint it again and put the stocks back on to see which way it sells the best. Any way I would appreciated any other comments, opinions and advice. Oh yea, does anyone know how to attach here the same pic that I already posted on another forum? I tried it but it said I couldn’t because I had already posted it somewhere else.

you can link your picture here by right-mouse-clicking on the image and selecting "Copy Image location..." then just paste it here....

I like the color, 4 door chevelles you will find are touch and go, not many people looking for a 4 door. wheels are too big for my tastes, but hey, you've got a car that is rarely on the road these days.

There might be an easier way, but I had to modify the original pic (just cropped it a bit) & rename it. I was then able to post it in another forum catagory.

Edit: Dang, I got treed!
