Last week I bought a '71 Chevelle 2-dr. HT, from a guy that stored his car, every year, for 20 yrs. in moth balls. Does anyone know how to get the smell out? The more places I look, the more I find. They were on the carpet, in the trunk, and in the engine compartment. I've sprayed some products that are to get rid of smells on furniture and carpeting in your home, but it hasn't worked. The guy that owned the car hung dryer sheets in the car, and three air fresheners. I really don’t want to replace the carpeting HELP!!!!!

When I bought mine it had the same problem. I really cleaned everything - carpet, headliner, seats, etc.(with Tuff Stuff), used OdorX (Nilodor will do the same) and left the windows open for weeks in the garage. I think the airing out did more than the cleaning.

Eventually the smell will go away so don't rush out and replace the carpet. Just make sure that you find all of the mothballs and get them out.
