I have a rpm air gap that I'm gonna put on my engine. I had started to port match it. I was talking to someone the other day he said probably won't help much if at all. Is port matching worth it? Would putting the intake on with one port opened up be a issue? Hopefully I didn't just wreck an new intake.

Doing the port match won't hurt a thing. The key is to get as far into the port as you can to keep it going in as far as possible. Work on getting rid of sharp edges in the intake any place you can. I ported my Holley 330-25 against everyone's advice, I still managed to run in the 11.30's with it with a pump gas 358 SBC. I did have a heck of a time hooking up the car with that intake, but it sure worked.

I currently have the rpm manifold on my sbc now. I've been reading about rpm vs airgap and some say it helps some say it doesn't. Is it worth switching would there be any improvement?

Not always true. Some run the Sq. Port intake on an oval port head and some run an oval port intake on a Sq. port head and there are reasons for both. My SBC 406 has a huge mis-match on the sides of the heads but it still ran 10's. My buddy ran a stock Sq. Port Rpm style intake on a huge Dart head and the engine still made 802hp. AN intake manifold is just an extension of the intake head port.
