Why not remove the broken stud?

The studs are replaceable. There are different styles of broken stud/bolt removers. Depending on whether or not some of the stud is sticking up will determine what type you will need to do this.

if it's flush with the surface, weld a nut onto what is left of the stud and spin it out... the heat will break it loose..

if you have 1/4" or more of the stud sticking out, you should be able to get a pipe wrench on it and break it loose...

99% of the time I can get them out with a small center punch. Take a center punch and a small ball peen hammer and gently walk the stud out. Just be careful not to booger up the top of the hole,it will make it harder to get the bolt out. If you can't get it to turn this way,a left handed drill works great too. Unless it's really stuck a left handed drill will walk it back out. Make sure you get in the center.

I like Derrick's method of welding a nut also.

You may need to heat the manifold with a torch to remove that stud.I would try using a good vice grip and a propane torch with Mapp gas (yellow can) instead of propane, burns much hotter. Both are sold at homedepot or lowes.Put the heat on the cast iron not the stud and when it starts to glow try turning the stud out.Soak it good with rust penetrant while its hot if it won't turn out it will soak in better.
Keep your eye out on craigslist there are a lot of edelbrock performer or RPM performers used intakes on there for $50-100 every month.

I dont know weather if its just the way I am seeing it, but the other front stud looks like it is just as rusted and as thin as the one that is broken, I would plan on replacing all 4 or you might just end up breaking the other one re-installing the carb.

I'd start spraying that with some PB Blaster or whatever for a while before trying to get it out. Doesn't look like there is much to grab.

On the bright side, my 2bbl only had 2 studs holding it on from the factory. You might be able to get the other one out with a proper application of heat and PB, and Just file this one flush.
