The picture belows shows the intake manifold. What is the purpose of ports #1 and #3?

I would guess that one is for a heater hose, but what of the other.

#1 - heater hose, #2 - bypass from water pump, #3 - can be used as a temp sensor (some factory senders are on the left head) or thermo sender for distributor advance.

Also the boss just to the left of #2 can be drilled & tapped for another if needed.

My 454HO uses that position for the heater hose---keeps the hose from the top of the valeve covers. Also keeps both heater hoses close together for both supply and return.

I have my fan switch in the 'Port #1' and temp sender in #3
