Put a Pro Products Oval Port Air Gap on the 408 motor. Bought it (new) for a song, so I decided to give it a try. So far it's fine. You'll catch a lot of crap for this thread - you have to do whatever is best for you. Funny - when I was young and had no money I wanted the best of everything even if it broke me. Now I have more money than I know what to do with and end up doing most things - well let's just say frugal. Good luck on this one.

yea im sure i will but just wanted to cut cost were i can. would buy used if i could but not many floating around . looking for sujestions however if you save on an intake and buy a better balancer or better vital engine part.Anyway just trying to see what everyone is running plus if one of those intakes would hamper the performance of my engine

I've tried a Vic Jr on mine twice,,,two weeks last spring with no improvement and just a couple weeks ago. I lost 60ft., e.t. was off, picked up a little mph, put the Performer RPM back on... 60ft came right back, set an all new best e.t. and set an all new best mph in 600ft worse air. I shift mine at 6k, kind of a self imposed deal, I want it to last as long as it can, would like to get 2-3 yrs out of it anyway. I'd go for an RPM Air Gap, and would love to try the RPM for rectal ports.

Believe it or not, its only a tenth slower than me. He's running a 440 in it and its only got a rollbar and one seat for interior, so he's quite a bit lighter, but a tenth is a tenth :D

I saw a new large oval Dom. flange topped Holley Strip. Dom. intake at a Swap Meet in a box for CHEAP once.

I'm thinking $140(???)...

Then I realized it was a Dom.-oval port single plane.....

Usually at a Dom. sized carb. level, I would have thought it should have been a rect. port intake so I figure that was why the price was so cheap...

I will say the a Holley Strip Dom. is GOOD value for the money TO ME!! If you need/want a high-rise single plane..

Just food for thought is all.

No way in He## I would run a dual plane on a 496 with a solid roller and 12.5:1 compression, and AFR heads. This is obviously not a daily driver, I'm guessing it will have around 4500+ stall, or at least it should. A good single plane(the victor 454R would be my choice) with a dominator, and at least 2 1/8" headers IMHO would work best. If you were going to run a 3000 stall, a 4150 style carb, and shift at or below 6000 RPM, you might consider the air gap.

I used a Brodix HV2001 (Tall Dominator Single Plane) with excellent results on my 496 with AFR 305CNC Chamber heads and a solid roller.
9.5:1 CR........made 701hp @ 6250
We chose that intake because it had rather long runners that extend well into the plenum. Brodix had to weld one side of each of the port exits for me to match with the rather small 305cc AFR runners. They did it for free....an excellent company to deal with.
We didn't dyno with any other intake.
Results in the car in my sig.

PDQ,

The cam is a Comp Cams custom billet roller.
But the lobes are from the Extreme Energy roller series, it's just bigger than the catalog grinds.

Intake lobe is a #4877 [email protected] .666 lift with a 1.7 rocker
Exhaust lobe is a #4878 [email protected] .677 lift with a 1.7 rocker.

Valve lash is .016 intake and .018 exh which nets right around .650" lift at the valve.

Seperation angle is 110.

Intake CL is 106, but we installed it at 109.

I am using the Comp ploymer distributor gear with excellent results.
