Installing door panels

1079 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  SSteve L
Quick question, folks. I'm about to install new door panels in our '71. I got the watershields because that seemed to make sense. Unfortunately, the car I'm working on had no watershields behind the door panels (probably why they need replacing, huh). The question is, how do the watershields mount? do they glue to the backs of the panels or what? THANKS!

They were attatched to the door with a strip of a butly like cauk all the way around the door. I install them with butyl (same stuff to install windshields). Just roll out a 1/4" strip and stick it to the shield around the perimiter and then stick it to the door. this seals out moisture (thats what the shields are for) and allows them to be pulled off easily if you need to get inside the door. If you arent worrying about getting back in the door I would just use silicone caulk for attatchment.
