Has anyone had any success in indexing a front spring by compressing the spring with the front end assembled and the car on jack stands? My car is completed, and the passenger side sits higher than the driver side. The passenger side spring is rotated to a "worst case scenario" position in that it is just past the end of the spring pocket and sits on the highest point on the upper and lower spring recesses. I have tried to loosen the lower ball joint nut a couple of rounds and strike the ball joint housing using a brass drift, but can't get it to come loose. I hate to scuff up the paint any more than necessary. Any suggestions? Thanks.

what Andy said. And zero is being generous.

Back off the lower ball joint nut a couple turns, so you can see daylight under it easy. Use 2 large hammers, one to back up the spindle, one to hit it. Don't need brass hammers. Have a jack under the A-arm supporting the car weight and leave the shock in till the taper is popped loose. Use a spring compressor to release the tension gradually. The spring will have to be loose in order to rotate it.

There might be paint chips, ignore them. Concentrate on safety working with the spring.
