First time for this event or anything like this in decades here in South Texas..., a Nostalgia/Vintage Car/Muscle car 1/8 mile race at a small town 1/8 mile track in Navasota, about 2 hours from me. This event is being put together and promoted by the largest Houston area Car club/organization (Niftees 50ees). Gonna be a lot of old nostalgia drag cars and "kings of the track" from the 50-60s.....A bunch of old racers I never heard of (WAY before my time) will be there. Should be pretty cool...

I don't think there is any classes or anything, really more of a T&T and Grudge/match race thing going on.... I am gonna take my Vette out there and make some runs....see if I can get into some Hemi or Max wedge action....maybe embarrass a few "race" cars.....I would also love to spank on some BBFs I'm not looking to set any new PBs, this will be in pure street trim for me (although I am gonna trailer it in case it breaks so I'm not stranded on a sunday night, over 2 hrs from home), Going to keep it as bone stock looking as I can for this event......Plus its gonna be hot and humid already on Sunday... I figure I can still go some [email protected]+ in pure street trim....(just remove air cleaner lid and thats it) and in the 80* heat. DA will probably be 2000'+.. I guess we'll see.

I will take a bunch pics and get some vids and post them up after the event.... Stay tuned...:beers:

Yeah my ***** gonna be SLOOOWWWW..... I have never ran it in bad air....plus I will not have all of my usual "trickery" on it....I'll be down 2-3 tenths fo sho..... But I'm just going to have fun and play with other old cars on an old track...who knows how good the timing system even is......

Pre 1970 only.
They may let you in if they dont catch that it is a 71, but they could also check paper work.

There is no getting around it in new york, our yearly nostalgia race is pre 1975. and the year of the car is on the front windshield in plain sight.

uh...you mean '69....
Hahaha. I can't tell em 69'....they look different from 70-71's which are almost identical....but I don't see them turning away anyone at the gate who is willing to race at their event....they need the participation...I think they are just mainly trying to keep out the late model mustangs and corvettes.

Should be a blast though. I decided to bring my bag of race trim goodies just increase I feel "froggy" and decide I need to go for the gold....or if I get a grudge race with a pesky hemi car...;)

i ran one of those last year in my 69, was cool running against lettered up old time race cars-i was in pretty much street trim, took out a couple then got beat, 9.99 to a 9.97
i should have programed the 4L80E to shift on its own, it had run quicker that way
dam camera man was taking a piss when we ran, would have been a cool shot, it was a Cuda with a 3' wheelstand, me with nothing but a 1.70's 60', chasing him down
you are gonna have fun, esp if enough cool stuff shows up-good luck

Need a set of wheels? I have some you could possibly borrow
Hey thanks for the offer man... I appreciate it. This time I am just gonna run it with my stock heavy a$$ Rallys on it.

I'm gonna make some passes just how I drive it on the street, I want to see what my true STREET trim is gonna ET. Then I may prop up the hood(latch extensions for more hood clearance), throw on the carb spacer,
pull the AC belt, pull the sway bar links, maybe throw some jets in it and see what it
picks up in my "race trim"...

This DA will kill my ET/mph anyway from my last trip out when it was running [email protected] It will still be fun to compete though, especially in a "stock" car.:D

All in all, had a great day at the drags....We had a freakin blast, REALLY showed up some people eventhough I was running pretty crappy times but so was everyone else. Track prep was about not existant and the first 2 hours of the day people were slipping and sliding the entire track. One 62' 413 Max Wedge Fury ended up face planting the rail after it got away from him....we were all pretty nervous. After seeing how bad the track was, I decided to run it in FULL STREET TRIM.....I figured more power is not going to help me and the DA was shooting up like crazy anyway so. I ran the car EXACTLY how I drive it on the street. (No carb spacer, no hood propping, no belt removal-even had the AC comp belt still on it, only 31* of timing, sway bar still in tact. Just pulled the air cleaner lid and filter off, lowered the air in the tires to 17psi and added a couple clicks to the rear shocks......thats it. The best DA was early at around 10am, it was like 958' I believe and it shot up through the day. My last pass the DA as +1790'. We beat some neat cars except for when mine would blow the tires off about a car length or two out of the hole....Nothing I could do about it. My car ran perfect as usual and the only tool I needed the entire day was a 1/4 ratchet to tighten up my air cleaner hold down....I absolutely do nothing to this car....It runs consistant(aside from the spinning) and strong all day.....Keep in mind the ****ty ETs and MPH was in full street trim and 1500' average DA.....I honestly was pretty happy with it....considering how bad the traction was...

Anyway, here are the vids in order from the day...

Sorry about the quality of these vids, my GF was either on crack or has developed Parkinsons, I'm not sure....

EASY first pass of the day, just a shake down run against my buddy's 528 Hemi Satelite. This would turn out to be the 2nd best pass of the day.

Everyone was talking smack about this truck and how bad he was gonna kill me.... His wife was talking crap and my GF was right beside her listening to her talk about how bad he was about to kill "just an old corvette".....:D We both spun on this pass but I guess I pedaled better...;)

Best pass of the day. Still pretty crappy. This was the only pass it actually halfway hooked up on.....still only a 1.60 60'. Worse yet was my 330' was only a 4.58....(normally it goes 4.38s in good air on a good track.)Still in full street trim, all belts in place....no tricks other then air cleaner removed. Other car was a 426 Max Wedge race car on slicks. DA was +1190'.

Bracket racing, Round 1....My novice attempt at this. I dialed in a 7.00, it spun bad and ran a [email protected] with only a 1.74 60'. I was still closer to the dial so lucked out this round.

Bracket racing, Round 2, I figured out I suck at bracket racing. Dialed a 7.00, car spun even worse this pass....It does fine for 1-2 car lengths out and once the converter really brings the power in it starts spinning all through the top of 1st and into 2nd. [email protected] with only a 1.83 60' and 4.92 330'......I was running him down on the top end though. If this was a 1/4 mile I would have passed him for sure...He only ran 95mph. I decided to call it a day after this pass before I wrecked it...

I also have a ton of pics I will post up tomorrow....I gotta hit the sack...I'm beat...
