Well after spending some time in Johnson City Tennessee, my family and I have decided to relocate to a new state. Since our family has expanded, the house we have called home for more than a decade has gotten too small, and the cost of LIVING has gotten too large. In short, Sarasota doesn't have the "small town feeling" anymore.
We vacationed in and around Johnson City, on the east side of Tennessee (near N.C. border and Virgina), and fell in love with the area. When we got back to Sarasota we decided to leave. Unfortunately it was right in the "housing slump".
To make a long story short in the 6 months the house was for sale we lowered the price $80,000. just so we could get out.
So I will be back on T.C. when we get up there and moved in. Hopefully we will be close enough to meet everyone at Chevelleabration this year!:hurray::beers:

Seems like quite a few folks are leaving FL for points a little further north.
Can't say I blame 'ya. ;)
Good luck with your relocation Scott.

I dont blame him for leaving, I too would love to leave and move up to Sevierville Tenn if I can only talk my wife into it and retire. I like cold weather the place I would reall like to live in the summer is Upper Yukon Territory British Columbia then go to Tenn for the winter. The cost of living here were I live is gotten so expensive its crazy.

Great move!
I moved up from Ft Lauderdale 5 years ago just before the "slump". I sold my duplex in 4 days and made more than the asking price. That put a substantial downpayment on the 5 acre, 2400 sqft custom house I built in Pittsboro North Carolina - 25 minutes west of Raleigh and a mile from a bigass lake. Crossing over this lake is like the 528 causway over the Banana River that I used to drive over everyday where I grew up in Cocoa Beach Florida.

I was born and raised in Florida, and I couldn't get out fast enough. Between the scorching weather, lack of seasons (except for tourist season), and generally bad disposition of everyone in the state - the only thing I miss is the beach. But then again, my dermitologist suggest I should never get the same sun that I used to as a kid - my back is full of the scars to prove it!

Have fun in the mountains - the beach is only a day's drive away!

My cousin just moved up to Southern Illinois after spending the last 15 years doing HVAC work out of Naples. Said he could not believe how much and fast things changed around there! Said his neighborhood was getting to be a war zone! He took a loss on his home to get out!

I am pretty sure the family wants to move as well. I will be going to the University of Central Florida next fall, so I am pretty much stuck in Florida for the next 5(ish) years.

Agreed! Anyone who was actually born and raised in Florida, probably hates it. The majority of people who actually like this state are the outta' towners. It is not so bad in the Northern part of the state, when you are in the middle of no where. But being in a big city, just ain't for me.

I think there are more illegals/homies in South Florida then there are Florida born folk...

I just did the same thing myself. I retired from my job in CT, and built a house in NC. I've been here about five months and I am home sick!!!! I was thinking about selling and moving back. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I miis everything back home, including my friends and family. It's very different too. I didn't take into consideration things like doctors, dentist and things of that nature. I'm really considering moving back. Think about it good and consider everything.

 on Sevierville. We vacationed there a couple of years ago and despite not being much of a country boy, I think I could live there. My 6 year old still talks about going to our "other house" even though he was 4 at the time. A 3 floor, 2 balcony cabin on the side of a mountain makes a lasting impression! :D

I see them everyday. You know in football there are quarterbacks, full backs, and in North Ga., there are Halfbacks. People who moved south to Fla., and found it too hot, so they moved to North Ga., half way back! Good luck with your move.
