Car wouldn't start the other day. So.. replaced starter & solenoid and all is well...except now car won't shut off. Ignition switch chose to go bad same day apparently. Still starts...just won't quit--key can be completely removed in off position, but car still running. Switch is apparently bad. Switch is in the column in a 1969.

Has anyone changed one out before? Is it an extremely difficult task or is it just a matter of removing wheel to get to the part. Any special tools required?

The switch is relatively easy to remove. You need to remove the dash panel below the steering wheel and then remove the two bolts that hold the steering column to the dash and drop the column. Next look on the top side of the column for the switch (get a new switch and look at it to see what it looks like)Unplug the wiring harness then remove the 2 screws (5/16 or 1/4) that hold it to the column. Pay attention how it came off and install new switch and hook up wiring harness.
Good Luck I hope this helps.

Does the car shut off if you move the key towards the ACC position?
If so, you can adjust the ignition switch by loosening the bolts holding it and slide it up or down to get it in the position it needs to be in.

Someone was having a problem on here just the other day with his car not shuting off. If I remember correctly, it had to do with a bad ground on an MSD system.
