Hi,
As some of you know I'm restoring my '66 396/325. You have been a lot of help and as one member strongly suggested, I recently purshed an AIM. So far it has answered many questions that were baffeling me. Previous owner put a rebuilt dist/new beige cap/ generic coil. I am now looking for correct 111109 dist. Questions; I assume I should also be looking for a Delco-Remy dist cap and a dated stock Delco Remy coil. I think I can find the distributor if I look hard enough but a stamped cap in good shape and a stamped coil seem very unlikely. I know that Paragon has a cap they sell as well as a coil they sell and will date stamp for you. Did the Chevelles have date stamps or just the vettes? Any answers will be quite welcome
Thanks
DWR

ps: The only dumb question is the one that is not asked!

Doug,

All GM distributors had dates stamped on the tags or aluminum housings, not just Corvettes. Coils had the last three numbers of the GM part number embossed on the metal canister part of the coil. Coils are not dated. The distributor number should be 1111109 and the coil number is 1115202 or D511 and should have the embossed numbers 202 and 12-V on the can. No painted on numbers on the coil. D308 / 1932018 (without a T or R on the top, not D308R) is the correct original cap.

One down and two to go, Doug, I read the thread you mentioned and I believe it was also suggested that you get this and this and I agree 100% , I know it seems like everyone is telling you to buy this and buy that..... but I can tell you, I use the AIM, the CD's and this site regularly when it comes to my 66.
Mikes CD in particular has lots of little tidbits you won't find anywhere else regarding the SS versions and Dales is filled with necessary codes, dates, and general information as well.
Most if not all my (little knowledge) has come from these sources.
Anyway... here's some info & pic's for you. The only pic's I have are what applied to my car, which sounds to be the same as your needs.
There were three coils used, 204, 242 & 212 depending on date & options.
The distributer had 6 versions, but it seems you know you that the 1109, was yours, so your all set there.
The pic of the Dist Cap is the GM licensed reproduction cap, looks identical... but not quite as solid. (I have a NOS that I compared it to)
I'd grab one of those , the NOS are few and far between and quite $$$$;)

This distributer is the 109 version, notice the tag... it also has a date on it as well, mine is 5 H something :D

Here's the 204 Coil.... ( unpainted)

Anyway, hope this helps.... and get those CD's!!! with the questions I've seen you ask on this forum, it seems you want it right and those will help.
I constantly refer back to them on stuff I've already looked at many times to refresh my memory... it's that middle aged thing.:D

Good luck:thumbsup:

Thanks Seb,
Can you tell me where I can purchase the dist cap you show and what it's part # would be?
Loooks like the coil will be a needle in a haystack to find but I'll keep trying!
Thanks again, DWR
