I am looking for GM/Chevrolet documentation for a brightwork trim strip that allegedly was at the beltline between the front and rear wheel wells on some 1972 Chevelles. I have not seen any documented support for this trim strip, but I am still searching. Does it appear in your GM or Chevrolet factory manual?

That's a good question Tom. I had a 72 chevelle that had that beltline trim on it and it looked like it was factory to me. Although I don't know for sure. I was not the original owner of that car. I don't have a 72 fisher body manual. Got one for a 70, and checked it just out of curiosity and it doesn't show it available on the 70 chevelle, and I didn't think it would, but that surely doesn't mean that it wasn't available on the 72..........GT

Good question Tom. Back when my 70SS was a daily driver I installed the black with chrome edge stick on strip at the same height as the SS on the fender. Worked great, didn't look bad either but I can't force myself to put it back on now. The first time I get a door ding I'll wish I did...

I dont have a build sheet or fisher body manual but I do have a 72 convertable that did have this stip on the car. I bought the car from the original owner and it was never molested. I must say though I did take it all off. I can give you my vin if you would like to look it up.

Tom,

I looked in my 1972 Fisher Body Manual and if your are speaking about the exterior molding trim, it’s in the manual on pages 16-1 through 16-55. These pages cover Chevrolet Styles A, B, F and POB and Cadillac. They don’t specifically show Chevelles but do cover Chevrolet A body styles with an Exterior Molding Chart on page 16-7. Base on the information in the manual, the trim on my 1972 is stock. I have attached three URL links to my 1972 with the best pictures that I can find that shows the exterior molding trim:

Hope this helps.
