Ran for a directorship in the Manitoba Canola Growers Association for the second time. Was in for two years, so as an incumbant, I had a little edge. Needed it. Now I'm in for 4 years. Not too many perks, but a nice yearly junket to some decent destination if you've got airmiles to cover flight costs. So, I'm a winner! Congratulations humbly accepted, lol!

I would think with the big price of Canola they would be flying you to places all around the world. :)

Any snow in your part of the world? Nothing here, boy did I pick the right year to start swath grazing.

Congratulations on your victory. I'm sure it's very satisfying. My cousin just got back from a meeting with a Canadian canola farmers' co-op in an effort to acquire canola seeds for the production of bio-fuels. Maybe your paths have crossed. Again, Congratulations!!!

Hey Rod, yeah, I can't believe that canola is so low in price! My 600 acres went 2.3 bushels to the acre. Not a misprint. What are you doing to make money? I'm thinking a 50 year old gigalo.

Congratulations. Were dead people allowed to vote as they are in Chicago?
Grain farmers aren't technically dead. They wander around with the 1000 yard stare, devoid of hope.

2.3! That would pay the fuel bill if your combine was a Jetta. I am just waiting for our big Alberta Gov't $400 cheque, that will be my farm income for the year. :)

Great! Congrats!!

I gotta ask since you should know??

What's the percent of erucic acid in processed over the counter for sale in the grocery store Canola Oil???

AND I am talking about what the latest lab test sheet will indicate from a non-vested, independent lab too....

Troublemaker that I am b/c my "inquiring mind want's to know"!!

I'm afraid to use the stuff is why I ask is all....

Here it is: Foods may contain up to 2% erucic acid. Canola oil contains .2%. The specialty oils from Cargill contain .1%, but it is no big deal, as these oils are stable and do not require partial hydrogination. That is the big deal; fries could actually be good for you fried in high-stability oils. I am growing some this year. Btw, high-erucic rapeseed, or HEAR, has 45% erucic acid, and is used in specialty lubricants for industry.
The only oil profile nearly as good as canola oil is olive oil, but doesn't have nearly the omegas.
