I'm looking for some ideas about ways to rig a kill switch. My horn broke long before I bought the car and, with two middle fingers I see no need in fixing the horn.

I was thinking of making use of my unused horn button and wiring the ignition so that the car wouldn't start unless the horn button was depressed. Any other ideas y'all?

Thats a pretty cool idea. Kinda like the "start" buttons that are popular on new performance cars (honda s2000).

On thinking a little longer on using the horn, I know I accidentally hit the horn occasionally when turning. I wouldn't want to accidentally hit the starter while driving.

I guess you could make it so you had to hold the horn while you turn the key to "start", rather than just turning the key to "run" and then pressing the horn button (or "start" button) like on the S2000.

It would be tricky to wire, since neither the horn button nor the starter solenoid have a ground wire. The starter solenoid is feed power when the key is turned and automatically grounds through the starter, while the horn is fed power continuously, and is grounded through the steering shaft when you hit the button to complete the circuit.

you would need a relay, I think. You could feed the relay coil from the "start" wire off the key and ground it through the horn button.

Pretty simple to do and a theif certainly wouldn't want to honk the horn.

How about doing away with the bright lights too, (you don't really need them either) then you would have to hold the key, press the horn and hit the dimmer switch all at the same time.
heck you would still have one free foot, maybe the brake light switch also ? ?

The theif not wanting to honk the horn was what I was banking on. I had already thought of the dimmer switch, but not both at once. That's pretty slick.

I'm not sure why, but the previous owners rigged a push button horn switch under the console above the driver's left leg. I was thinking that this horn button would look like a kill switch and may fool a theif into drawing attention to themselves if they tried to start the car with that button.
