I have a 64 chevelle with a 12 bolt 2:73 ratio rear-end. The car has a fresh 375 HP 350 CI engine with a moderate cam, 650 Holley, Perfomer intake.....The car sounds great but does not run well out of the hole. I do not have an unlimited budget but I have to do something. I have talked to numerous folks that have given me lots of advice. The common thread seems to be to replace the stock torque converter with a 2500. If that does not fix the problem then replace the rear gear and pinion with a lower gear. I am not going to race the car, but I do not want to be embarassed if I were to jump on one of the Ford products....Can anyone give me some advice.....
again, I can not afford to experiment .......

I'd change the gear to a 3.36 or so, 3.73 if you want to be sure. You're going to need some kind of a posi in any case. The posi is the most expensive part, look at a Lock-Rite to save a few bux.

Those gears gotta go..

I bought a complete kit with 3.73 gears, Eaton posi and an installation kit (that came with a sweet Richmond installation video) for under 400 bucks, if I recall correctly, from a guy on ebay. Swapped the whole thing in my garage to save the installation costs (which run about 250 here) to fix my peg-leg rear end problem.

I know some folks don't like Richmond because they are supposedly noisy, but my set has been quiet as a mouse so far, and the price was reasonable.

The Cuda "snuck in" once, but management wasn't impressed and called the authorities. They escourted me home.

3.55 is a good all around gear. I bought mine with Eaton 3-series posi off Ebay for $210.00 and another $75.00 for installation kit with bearings. Replaced the 2.56 peg leg and thought I had installed another engine. I had a 3200 stall already but all that did was leave one black mark until I let off the throttle.
