What exactly happened? It looked to me like there was a spark and then the handlebars broke on the bike... Did the rider get injured? I watched it multiple times and could not make out what happened.

Underneath it says a piston goes thru the riders forearm, although to me it looks as though it bounces off his arm, not that that makes it much less painful.

The video description also says that it was a Gixxer 750 race bike. You don't often see race bikes being used for regular civilian transport duty, now do you?

How often is something like that going to happen on a street bike, hmm?

While we're on the topic of bikes, here's the newest addition to the stable:

It's an '05 Suzuki GSX-R1000, and it is a blast to ride.

If I had a wife, she'd probably be on a 600.

I may be wrong, but I did stop it several times to take a good look. To me, it looks like his hand is taken off, as you can see it drop to the ground. As he turns to fall of the bike, take a look at his sleeve, it has no hand (black glove or hand) sticking out. You can clearly see what I think is his hand in front of the bike. I hope I'm wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

Reading the comments attached to it, this is an old video that was cut off right at the optimum point.

Dude had a nitrous box blow and part of it hit his arm. Knocked his GLOVE off, but he wound up okay and is still racing.

It's the editing that makes it look dramatic...

My long gone Crippled Buddy that had the old '58 'Vette ragtop with the Z-30 cammed 375hp/327 motor in it broke his back riding a '55 or so KHK Hog.

AND his Son got killed riding his Hog too!

Bad luck for both of them.

This is why I stopped riding my '81 or so Yamaha, XS 400 Special II once I started living around a bigger town years ago.. I know it barely qualifies as a bike, but it would do a 100 mph!!

In many sanctioned classes that run V-twins this wouldn't have happened. They are required to run a head plate to protect the rider from chest injuries when a head is chucked off the jugs.

Besides, this was just a backfire through the carbs/throttle bodies that threw the air box cover into his hand. If that would have happened on an H-D the air cleaner would have popped off and flown into the other lane.

Still wouldn't have happened. Two different styles of bikes here.

The Gixxer in the video uses clip on's thus placing the hands lower and into the fairing. The HD would have drag bars attached to the upper triple tree thus the difference in hand placement.

And the head plate would have protected the HD (not even an HD anymore when you want to go like stink on an HD...unless you buy a VRXSE Destroyer V-Rod...the world's quickest manufactured bike in the 1/4 mile now :D ) rider if the piston was chucked.

Yeah, I'm bored ;)

BTW Cody, nice little 600 you got there

I seem to recall that a few people lost a foot in the early days of drag racing before they mandated blow-proof bellhousings. So cars are dangerous too.

BTW, those are some cute little bikes y'all got there.

(Mumbling: Some people will put anything between their legs.) ;)
