When I first moved into our new neighborhood I had the Chevelle parked out in the driveway because we had boxes filling the garage. One of the neighbors drove by, backed up, and pulled in to the driveway. I was in the garage and I saw him pull up. We talked for an hour, much to the chagrin of my Mrs. Turns out he had a '69 Mustang fastback drag car his dad gave him. Dude my age. It's a pretty sweet car. Old car people can be awesome.

My neighbors have stopped to looked at mine and talked. Is the guy a waiver, he maybe friendly. If he’s not a waiver probably not very friendly. Maybe drive past when you get yours out on occasion.
I am not a waver but if you stop in I have mountains of car talk and you may miss dinner.

Yup, one of my neighbors has a couple '66 Chevelles, and it's a 2hr visit any time one of us stops at the other's place.

Ok, so here’s the scenario….like most of you I am probably the only guy with a chevelle in my neighborhood. (Not positive though about that statement) There is a guy’s house that I have to pass everyday to get to my place. During the summer he always has his garage door open where he has a ton of neat neon beer and car signs. It looks like he has turned it into his man cave in passing. The other night as I was driving to the grocery store his garage door was open and I’m almost positive I saw a orange and black 70 chevelle sitting in there which I’ve never seen before. I circled back around trying to not be to obvious to get another look but he had cars parked out in his driveway so I could only get a quick peek. I’ve never met this guy so I’m not sure what I should do, just go up and knock on his door and ask what he’s got (which I’m 100% not going to do 🤣), wait until spring/summer to drive by in my chevelle and stop when he has his garage door down and introduce myself, or just let it be???? I love chevelles and it seems like he’s a car guy himself, I just don’t want to intrude on his space at all because I know if that happened to me I might be a little sketched out. Oh and also it’d be nice to talk about all the old school beer signs he has in his garage. Help a fellow chevelle brother out guys!!!!!!

10 years ago when I was still on Long Island I lived on a main road going into town. Lots of traffic. I had a lift in my garage and Usually had some type of project going on. I would put my Pro Street Monte in front of the house and my Bikes behind it and the Chevelle at the end of the driveway. I had people stopping all day long to look and talk. I didn’t mind. Some days I didn’t get much done but I got to meet a lot of people.

Ok, its been a while, did you talk to him yet?

I'm jealous of you guys with other cars in the area. My town I live in is <900 people and I don't know of one other classic car in the whole damn town. 🤬

Just stop by when you see him out there. The one thing I've found out over the years is this. If he's a car guy then you already have something in common. Right there is the ice breaker. Most of us would stop whatever we're doing to talk cars. Whether you are young or old. You always will talk cars given the opportunity.

I agree. But me personally: I would not take it a step further by knocking on his front door. IMO that's just moving from being a fellow car guy, to being downright annoying and nosey. Again, JMO

This is really becoming comical! It's been ten days since this thread started and still no contact has been made. If I don't hear something soon about how it went, I'll fly out and knock on this guys door myself. And then I'll tell him that there is this really nice guy in your neighborhood who is also into classic cars that would love to meet you, but he's too shy. Lol, I'm just kidding, but it's not that difficult, nor is it rude, to knock on a strangers door.

I did just that last summer in my neighborhood. We just had a new roof put on our home, as did other neighbors on our street. We noticed one of our neighbors had new gutters installed with his roof and we were thinking of doing the same. So one day I walked up to his door and knocked, no one answered so I left. I came back the next day and knocked again, this time he answered. I introduced myself and explained I live right down the street and noticed you had new gutters installed with your new roof. I asked him how he liked the job they did and if he didn't mind if I take a look at the craftsmanship of the job because I was thinking of getting new gutters myself. He was really friendly and didn't mind at all. He came out and we ended up talking for about a half hour or so. I now know another person in my neighborhood.

A friend pointed out what he said was a '72 GTO about a mile down the road. We drove out in his '72 Lemans GT and we took a look. We were able to check it out although I don't remember the circumstances as to why it was o.k.
Later when I saw the guy and the car as I drove by I stopped out front & told him what I believed his car was, a '72 Lemans GT hardtop coupe with T41 Endura front end, 350 2-barrel with GTO duals & splitters (code in the VIN told me), HD 3-speed with Hurst, 3.23:1 rear, Cardinal Red with black vinyl bench, now '71 GTO buckets & rear seat. So what does he do? He goes in the house and brings out a box of pictures showing when he brought the car up from the Carolinas. I called it right. At that time it had gold GT sword stripes on it, which I didn't think they did with the T41. You learn stuff by asking. It was now solid red, and a Muncie 4-speed was just swapped in. I asked what happened to the Dearborn 3-speed, to which he replied that it went into the dumpster. I asked what was wrong with it, he said, "nothing, nobody wants them." I was willing to go dumpster diving right then until he said that they picked it up the next day.
Maybe he was just throwing me off, who knows? Damn nosey people (oops, that's me.)

Another time a few blocks from my place I caught a glimpse of a nice '71 442 W30. I did not feel like just walking up to that place would have been welcomed, so I left it. Later when I was out for a walk and saw the guy there I asked if I was seeing things when I saw a W30. I could tell he was a little leery but he invited me in to have a look after I told him I lived 4 blocks down and own a '67 Chevelle. It was a nice specimen, stock, dark brown with gold striping W30 M21 with black buckets no console, spoiler & bell tip exhaust. A few doors down from him a guy owned a '56 Chevy sedan delivery. Yes, I chatted with him as well, and he showed me under the hood and around. Both those neighbours haved since moved away. And the non-car guy that lived between them with the familiar blue '68 De Ville convertible died. The last I heard, the sedan delivery went to Smiths Falls. 30 years ago... The De Ville convertible went to Windsor.

I have so many instances of walking up to talk cars with strangers. 1 block from my place was a '65 Olds Jetstar1 in primer that the owner was blocking out, so I went over. He was restoring it stock and was an Olds guy through and through. He showed me the very rare '72 Olds Super Stock wheels from a Delta 88 that he intended to run.

Hell, I walked up to a brother in Atlanta to admire his '67 Marlin. He looked at me surprised, like, "people don't do that around here.". Stock with custom paint & decent wheels, he did appreciate the comment, but he must have figured I wasn't from those parts. That was when I was young and foolish (and a little ignorant).

Then maybe he's a member here. :D
OP is in the Seattle area.... Not sure if you've ever been here in January/Feb before, but its basically dark, Soggy, Grey and miserable 95% of the time this time of year...
Most of us curl up and hibernate in October and don't come out until July... But occasionally we get a couple cold clear sunny day (like today is supposed to be) and you'll see toys come out and stretch before crawling back into our caves for the remainder of the season.
🤣
