House AC compressor won't stop running. Turn the unit on by the thermostat, compressor starts and doesn't stop until I flip the breaker. Keeps running even when the AC is turned off inside. Gets mighty icy.

Have no idea what to check first

Yep, :yes: me too. Also can be a short somewhere in the stat wire from red to yellow.
99% of the time it's contacts welded together, holding the contactor in.

I can't remember if your unit has a one pole or a two pole contactor Andy.
