Not a real happy guy today.. The rebuild(put motor together) was to take place today which didn't happen. The friend of mine lives 6-7 houses down the street from me. Anyway, he said we would at least get the rings file fitted before he went to work today (at 11.30 am) Well he never came out of his house untill it was time to go to work.. He never called or came by.. About 1.pm he pulls in my drive way and stated he took the day off:hurray:. My 1st thoughts was I'll get this done now!! WRONG!! He said I'm headed to the SUPER CHEVY SHOW but I'll get the rings fitted and the pistons on the rods tonight and do the rest on SAT. He knows my job)TRUCKER) and he also knows this is probably my only free week-end to get this done and installed! I feel dis-respected as a friend:yes:. I came close a couple of times telling him I was picking up my block & parts and taking them eles where. Been trying to be cool because I don't want to rush him and get a terrible job.I DON'T LIKE THIS FEELIN.

Been there, sounds like when my car was at the Body shop (prison). Tell me the same old story well it should be in primer next week etc, etc. If his work is good sometimes its worth waiting for.

Dave
His work being good? They say he is pretty good.. When I say they say I mean the local boy's at the track. He is somewhat of a control freak. He can do about everything. Set-up your gears/rebuild a tranny and about anything eles. I'm so pissed about right now I'm shaking.

One reason to learn to do this yourself. No need to depend on other people that turn out to be flakes.
I agree 100%.. I regret not taking it on from the start. I just looked down the street and I can see he has begun the work.

Driver,

Dont take this the wrong way but .....

I bet you are getting the engine assembled at a bargain price too ? You get what you pay for. :( If you are in a hurry, take it to a reputable engine shop and have them put it together for you. If he is doing it for you as a favor, or for almost nothing, then you are at his mercy and should not be PO'd in the least bit. If you happen to be paying him good money to do the job, and it still isn't getting done, then get it out of there and find someone else to get it finished.

Just my opinion,

What i think Bill is saying is true, If you are paying less than $1,000 labor to build the engine and set up the valve springs and a roller cam be very quiet and patient

A quality build costs - It takes time to do a build, the engine does go together moe than one time, more than two times for that matter

your in columbus driver? Iam in cleveland we have a few good shops here the one I took my engine to has a great rep with the local racers but he is taking his time mine is still a bare block and bare heads after three months but it will be worth the wait Iam sure. first off I did pay less then $1000 to have it assembled heck I got less then that in all the machine work and assembly so I put a doner motor in the car just to drive till the big block gets done this way he dont have to rush I get to drive and I save some much needed green.

I'll just over look that statement and blow it off:yes: It really don't have much to with the engine as it does a friendship. I was just venting I guess. The friendship means more to me than the engine build!! Just venting!! I guess I wrote it all wrong. I'm the type of guy that if you tell me your going to be at my house at 8.am you best be there!! Don't tell me one thing and do another and not keep your word( the amount of money I'm paying you has nothing to do with it.} A man is only as good as his word. Bill, you are alway's quick to defend the hotrod shop or engine builder, maybe thats because you do that for a living? They aren't alway's correct and a lot of them aren't all that honest as well. I would say there are a few good honest ones and a whole lot of dishonest ones that promise you the moon untill they get your motor in their shop and keep for months on end.
Just my opinion.

It suck's...
I Have done one frame off a year for the last three years in a row,The first one was a 64 that i paid to have backhalved.....After waiting six months i told the (friend) i would never pay him upfront for anything again.
After that experiance,i will never wait on anyone again to do what i can do when i'm trying to get something done.

I know that feeling too, I bet that we have all been there at some time. My 12 bolt sat in my friends shop for 3 weeks before we built it. I drove down there a few times to help work on it, and we worked on one of his customers cars. I live in Medina, and he is in Warren. It takes about an hour and a half to get there. We did finish it, and I am glad that he helped. We found problems with how the previous owner built it.

The one bad thing about the drive, I had to go past the Summit Racing store to get there.

Don't sweet it, your friend will take care of you. It the work is not completed for the Super Chevy show, you can at least still go and look. You could bring it to the Super Chevy Show up at Norwalk next month, hopefully I will have mine ready by then.

I have a buddy doing my motor right now and I know it will be done right just not right now:D He has a job and a family so I knew going in it wouldnt be done overnight and really didnt expect it. Once its done I will have many years of fun with it so a few months dont hurt a thing. JMO (thanks Doc:yes:)
