I am going to look at a 67 coupe today and am told it is numbers matching. How can i determine if it is true? Is the Vin stamped on the engine pad along with the build date and suffix?

i don't think so, that vin# on the pad started in 68-models although i've heard some earlier HP-engines also may have been stamped.

if theres no vin# stamp then you can check the casting #'s on the block/intake/heads and the date casting #'s on the same parts. the engine should be stamped with the plant code on the pad that can also show what possible trans/carb/HP it had and possible car model it was installed in.

Thanks,

I am going there in a little while and will record all the #'s and take pictures to post.

That's not accurate.. though the poster has not said he is looking at a Big Block 67 SS or a Malibu??

66 and 67 SS's WILL have the VIN stamped on the deck pad.

Malibus will not
