Not a question, but a solution for those willing to try:

I picked up one of mr70's tach/guage clusters this weekend (thanks, rick), and wanted to try and remove some of the fine scratches in the plastic myself. So, I went to the kitchen and got out one of those SOS pads - NOT! I had some Meguire's ScratchX that polishes fine scratches out of the paint, and tried it on a corner to see if it would do damage - it didn't so I risked it all on one spot.

It works!!! Without adding smaller scratches! Of course, it's really fine stuff, so you would be there for a week if you had a deep scratch, and still may not get it out. Anyway, the cluster still has a few really minor scratches in it, but the plastic polished up so well it was amazing, and I had to share the tip.

Thanks for the tip...those plastic polishes (most of em I've tried, including the 3M variety <do they have a single product that is bad?
> ) work great for fine scratches...

I was gonna suggest though...if you do use a scotchbrite pad, don't use the kitchen variety (green or brown)...they are rather coarse...instead, they make a white pad that is ultrafine and is probably the equivalent of #4/0 steelwool...Anyway, I've had great results using those pads..they don't ssem to scratch....

BTW, these products as well as toothpaste can be used to fix your scrathed CD's by rubbing them with the cleaner in the direction the cd spins, in other words not ACROSS the cd but in a circular motion around the CD. much like the cd would be read by the W/R head. Then do the same with some dish soap, wash it off and play. Works good on minor cd scratches and keeps them from skipping and such.

Toothpaste, huh? Hmmm...have to try that one...I have plenty of CD's to "test"

Thanks...

Yeah, the McGuires stuff rocked when I cleaned up my gauge cluster lens....under direct light (sunny day) you can still see some swirling, otherwise I was really happy. Thanks for sharing the info!
