Okay, I have a new aluminum water pump that I would like to paint chevy orange. What are the prep steps to paint the pump? Do I use rough up the surface then use a solvent to clean it or is there a special prep to use on aluminum? The guy at Jegs said not to use solvents on aluminum but soapy water instead but the paint guy at the body shop store said to use a good degreaser after sanding such as PPG's DX330. Who is right?
I would add that I masked off the shaft and weep holes before I sprayed mine. A few minutes spent masking these areas will ensure that it turns out real nice for you. Nothing worse than a mad spray bomb artist...
