I know there is a way to fool a gas gage in older cars with the use os a resistor. any body know what size resistor? and is it paralled with the sending unit or in circuit by it self?

Not sure what you are asking. Out here during the first oil embargo, you couldn't get gas sometimes unless your tank was dry. Rigged up a varible pot and switch to make the tank read empty. Your sender is 90 ohms full, 0 ohms empty.

I think I get what you're after, but it would work "1/2 way".
Adding a resistor circuit to your existing fuel guage wiring would give you accurate readings, but the guage would only read between Full and 1/2 tank.

The guage is expecting a full range signal from 0 to 90 Ohms. Adding a resistor would "fool" it into thinking it was 1/2 full all the time.
