I had to clearance the hump on the pass. side of the cross member with a BFH to clear the exhaust. When I reinstalled it, the yoke on the driveshaft is not quite a fingers width away from the top of the tunnel.

In your experience what is the minimum safe distance?

Thanks,
Jim

That should be fine. The trans is bolted to the crossmember, and shouldn't move relative to the floor.
Is it different than it was before?

My clearance is about the same. It's been that way for years without any problems. With my solid motor mounts and quality tranny mount there isn't much movement and hasn't been a problem. But before I replaced the tranny mount I did have some contact during hard launches but nothing since. The mount was just worn out.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, it moved from before. From when I was wacking at with the hammer. It actually pushed the whole trans into the floorboard the first time i put it back (whoops.) I hammered it back to the position I mentioned above. I wasn't sure how much flex to expect on a good launch, So I want to make sure i have the clearance.
