Sounds like one would need to contact every state DMV to try and get info on registered cars. For those not registered, good luck !

I once used "Automotive Information Clearing House (AIC)" listed below. I had a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 Ranch Wagon. Some 16,000+ were originaly built. This company told me that only 182 remained registred in the entire U.S. of which 22 were located in my state (CA). These totals were gathered from computer-tracked DMV registrations. The cost was about $20.
