How do you get HVAC certified

Am wondering what it takes to get HVAC certified. I recently quit my bodyshop career so I can get back into the electrical field.
Can you get HVAC certified by taking some sort of online classes or classes at a local college? Or is it more involved that one would need to go back to school and get a degree?
Ive got my foot throu the door on a government position and if I had that HVAC cert it would seal the deal.
Thanks for any input...Eric

Whaaattt??

Is this health related, or just burnt on the bodyman trade??

(You're too good a "metal-man" to leave..)
My health did play into effect, I need to start thinking future wise. Tired of the endless BS and seeing people with no knowledge decide how much my paycheck is:mad:

Plus its about time to put that electrical degree too good use
JR,
No doubt that jounreyman license would be top notch and a great addition to the resume. But most places Ive talked too and even this gov job, just want the cert. The government job contracts most of the work out, but yet they would want me to be HVAC certified.
Later down the road, that license would be great, but right now just the cert will work, hopefully.
My background is electrical, PLCs, VFDs etc, I know enough about HVAC to get me in trouble:)
